Amazon & the North

Voted as one of the Seven New Wonders of Nature, the Amazon Rainforest is home to the richest variety of flora and fauna. Start in Manaus or Santarém. Experience Anavilhanas Archipelago, the Meeting of the Waters, Presidente Figueiredo, Alter de Chão, Belém etc. Don’t miss out on the Folklore Festival in Parintins – the Carnival of the North! One of the best ways to explore the Amazon is by boat. Check out our Cruise Page. An alternative would be to stay at one of the jungle lodges. Roraima is a destination on its own and great for the outdoorsy type! If you were thinking climbing Kilimanjaro, I bet Roraima will call to you too.

Seasons: During the rainy season (December to May) the rivers and lakes are full and wide, rising up, spreading way out into the trees. This is a great time for canoeing.  During the dry season (August to November) the channels and rivers dry out and many beaches surface. That is the best time to visit Alter de Chão.
