The Pati Valley trek, considered one of Brazil’s most beautiful, might be the itinerary’s highlight, nonetheless, this holiday also offers you stays in iconic and colourful Salvador and colonial Lençois and a final few days in idyllic Morro de São Paulo relaxing on sandy beaches and bathing in crystal clear waters. The state of Bahia is the true star of the itinerary, uncovering all its secrets and revealing why it is considered one of the most diverse and stunning states in Brazil.
Arrive in Salvador where your guide and driver will meet you and take you by private car to your hotel. Depending on your flight arrival, you might have some free time before bedtime so why not enjoy a walk around the Pelourinho, Salvador’s charming historic centre?
A colourful and bright city, Salvador captivates everyone with the happiness of Afro-Brazilian culture. This unique charm is the consequence of the mixture of races, cultures and religions since its foundation. Today you will take a guided tour through the history and culture of this enchanting city!
Enjoy a day at leisure in Salvador.
Today you will be taken by private car to Salvador bus station where you will catch a bus to Lençois, approximately 430 km west. Once arrived in the town, you will be met by your driver and taken to your hotel. This small village is the gateway to Chapada Diamantina and it has charming colonial architecture, good hospitality and gastronomy.
Today will be full of visual delights as you visit stunning Chapada Diamantina National Park. The beautiful scenery is characterised by huge rock walls, canyons, grottos and caves. High precipices lead to the biggest waterfalls in the country and clear blue natural pools surprise the visitor by creating very unusual scenery. During this tour you will visit Torrinha Grotto, have lunch at a lovely local restaurant, snorkel in crystal clear waters and visit Inácio Hill from where you will enjoy some of the country’s most spectacular views!
Departure from the Posada at 7:30 am approximately and transfer to “Bomba”, the beginning of the trail. The first part of the walk is the ascent from Bomba to the general of Vieira, with the incredible view of the Capão valley. The second part is the crossing of Gerais do Vieira and Rio Preto, two extensive flat areas, for a total hike of about 14 km. Stop for a snack at the Mirante, enjoying the view of Serra da Lapinha and Morro do Pati.
After breakfast, the trail continues along the Funis River bed, passing incredible waterfalls and arriving at Funis waterfall. After an invigorating swim and a snack stop, you will hike up the Serra da Lapinha, to visit the Gruta do Castelo, a huge quartzite cave located at the top. It is possible to cross it and enjoy the view of the other side of the valley. You will start the descent to finish today’s trek.
After breakfast, walk towards the top view of Cachoeirão, one of Pati’s biggest attractions. It is an impressive 300m waterfall with several waterfalls, reaching around 20 in total during the rainy season. Stop for snacks and a swim, and return to the Valley in the late afternoon.
On the last day of the hike, you will hike the 18 km across the Gerais of Rio Preto to end the expedition in the village of Guinea. There is a good climb at the beginning of the day, but the rest of the route is flat, with a stop for a snack and a swim in Rio Preto. The last section of the trail is the descent through Morro do Beco, arriving in Guinea in the late afternoon in time to enjoy a spectacular view of Serra do Esbarrancado. At the end of the hike you will be taken by private transfer back to Lençóis.
Today you will take the bus journey to Salvador. All transfers to and from the bus stations are included. Enjoy your last night in the Bahian capital!
After all the activities enjoyed so far, it is time to take some time off and enjoy some relaxing time on one of Bahia’s beautiful beach spots. You will be driven to the pier where you will catch a catamaran to Morro de São Paulo. Once arrived, you will be met by your guide and driven to your ecoresort.
Morro de São Paulo is a car free village in the northern part of Tinharé Island. Accessible only by boat, it is simply picture perfect. Enjoy a couple of days in paradise!
Time to say goodbye to Brazil after this invigorating and adventurous trip! We have included the catamaran ride back to Salvador and the private transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
Please note: the trek can be demanding so a good level of fitness is required. Also, accommodation during the trek is at locals’ houses so it can be basic and modest.
