Brazil is such a big country and it could be difficult to decide where to go, especially if it is your fist time. Our first suggestion is to not try and see everything as it is impossible! And you don’t want to spend most of the time at airports catching flights from one destination to the other.
The good news is that thanks to its sheer size, it does indeed offer something for everyone. If you love nature and wildlife head for the Pantanal, Amazon or Alta Floresta or even better combine them together and spend at least 3 nights in each destination to make the most, Here are some example itineraries that focus on wildlife and are ideal for couples and families alike, Brazil wildlife family holiday and Brazil wildlife: the Pantanal and the Amazon.
If want to experience the real Brazil and incorporate culture, history, amazing landscapes and heavenly beaches the north east is your best bet and the state of Bahia probably the best option as it offers colonial towns, amazing national parks of astounding beauty and long stretches of sandy beaches, some more popular and some more off the beaten the track. You can have an unforgettable 2-week holiday in Bahia alone, including one of the country’s most beautiful treks (if you like to be active on your holidays).
If your interest lies in history and culture, Minas Gerais state is a wonderful destination as it encompasses colonial gems like Ouro Preto and Tiradentes and is easily reachable from either Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro either by flight or by land. Have a look at our tour of Minas Gerais from Rio by land to visit Brazil’s colonial gems!
The Iguaçu Falls are often featured in any Brazil holiday and rightly so. They are a spectacle of nature and have good flight connections with most destinations in Brazil. We recommend a minimum of 2 nights here and 3 at the most if you want to visit them with more time. As they are one of the most visited places in Latin America, here you can find some of the continent’s most exclusive and renowned hotels, thus making them perfect for a special holiday. Shared with Argentina, the Iguaçu Falls are also great if you are combining Brazil and Argentina in one holiday.
And a special mention goes to Rio! You will most likely fly into the city and we recommend to spend at least 3 nights here, more if you can, we promise it will be worth it! Rio is truly enchanting and it lives up to its reputation of beach, sand, sounds and friendliness. It is a city with a real beating heart and captivating soul and deserves to be lived at least once in your life and no wonder it is featured in all of our itineraries! We also recommend to visit some of the places around it, like the Green Coast or Buzios as they are the perfect destinations to find some relaxation after a busy holiday.
