South America’s vastest country is also one of the richest in culture, unique natural habitats and spectacular hidden beaches. With no travel restrictions, now is the best time to start planning a holiday to Brazil!

Brazil’s beauty and diversity are captivating. From one of the world’s most iconic cities, to unique wildlife encounters in the Amazon rainforest and the Pantanal wetlands, to the amazing landscapes of its Chapadas and the the myriad of heavenly sandy beaches – few countries in the world offer such an abundance of attractions. Brazil must be experienced at least once in your life…

Val, our Brazil specialist, comments: “This is why I have been to Brazil several times. It is one of those places that has stuck with me and has allured me back time and again. I still get that first visit buzz when I am there, and few countries in the world capture me the same way.”

Where should you go in Brazil?

Rio de Janeiro & surroundings

The Cidade Maravilhosa is marvellous for a good reason! It enjoys one of the most beautiful settings in the world.

Once you are at the top of Corcovado or Sugar Loaf mountains, and you look down and around, you will know what we mean!

It is just unique and totally breathtaking! But don’t stop there, the lush Green coast a few hours by car, is a great escape after a few days living the Carioca life.

The Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon needs no introduction! One of the world’s most iconic and talked about ecosystems, it is a privilege to enter its realm.

Wildlife here is shy and you are not guaranteed a lot of encounters, but exploring the Amazon is a different, more sublime experience. Responsible tourism to this region brings benefits as it raises awareness and helps the operations that strive to protect it.

The Pantanal

Home to the jaguar and endless wildlife species, the Pantanal is the best place in Brazil to experience a unique connection with nature. The world’s biggest wetlands are brimming with life.

If in the Amazon wildlife is secretive, here it greets you in abundance, making the Pantanal a must see destination if you want to experience animals in their natural habitat.

Iguaçu Falls

A majestic spectacle of nature, the Iguaçu falls are the world’s largest broken waterfalls. Made up of 275 separate waterfalls fed by the Iguazu river, they sit on the border between Brazil and Argentina.

They should be visited on both sides to experience the whole might of this natural phenomenon. And the bonus? You will get to set foot in two countries on the same day!

Bahia and the Northeast

The state of Bahia is blessed with year round good weather, breathtaking natural parks, rich colonial heritage and thousands of miles of beautiful coastline.

Venture further north and the whole of Brazil’s northeast will tempt you with hidden sandy beaches and off the beaten track adventures. This is true paradise, only matched by the friendliness and charm of its people!

Adventures made for family

Capoeira classes, a football match at the Maracanã, graffiti tours, and so many more fun activities for families!

A cooking or samba class in Rio is always a great way to bring the family together or you can choose to try your musical skills in a percussion session in Salvador.

And with its exuberant nature, Brazil will fill you with wonder. Imagine spotting a jaguar or an anteater with your family?

What a magical experience that you will all cherish forever!

A journey to tickle the taste buds

Thanks to its many ethnic influences and sheer size, Brazil’s food is varied, fresh and simply delicious.

You have to try Cachaça, a fermented sugarcane juice and the alcoholic kick of caipirinha, the national drink, and if you find yourself in Bahia, Moqueca fish stew is a must.

My personal favourite? Feijoada! It might not look great but this earthy, meaty stew is just too good, especially at Bar do Mineiro in Santa Teresa in Rio!

Attend the largest party on earth! Rio’s Carnival, February 2023

Brazil’s joie de vivre is an all year round affair but at Carnival, it simply explodes! As if it were even possible, there will be more sounds, colours and joy all over the country during this jubilant week. Rio’s celebrations generally take place around February and are the world’s most famous, as the city’s party atmosphere spreads everywhere and is infectious. It is a busy time but an experience worth living once in your life.

Arpoador Hotel

Finding a boutique hotel on Rio’s seafront is as hard as counting the grains of sand on Copacabana!

Discovering Arpoador Hotel was a joy and true triumph. This is a little gem of a hotel, in a spectacular position, on the eponymous peninsula between Copacabana and Ipanema, where sunsets are just spectacular.

The hotel is elegant, friendly and the seafront rooms are worth spending that little extra!

Santa Teresa MGallery

Santa Teresa is one of Rio’s oldest neighbourhoods. It might not be on the beach but it makes up for that with lovely boutique hotels, cosy restaurants and an old world charm.

Santa Teresa MGallery is set in a historic coffee farm from the 1850s and offers a luxurious urban retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

We love the sophisticated charm of the rooms and the views from the pool are breathtaking!

Belmond Copacabana Palace

The Belmond Copacabana Palace is arguably one of the most famous hotels in South America.

Its art deco building has been a distinguished landmark of Copacabana beach for almost a century and its facilities are the best in the city.

The stunning pool, excellent restaurants and attentive staff, make the Belmond Copacabana Palace a true icon.

“Some of my most cherished travelling memories are from Brazil.”

How can I forget dancing the samba with the locals in a bar in Rio’s Lapa neighbourhood?! I wasn’t very good but my lack of coordination was made up for in enthusiasm (and plenty of Caipirinhas!)

Or spotting Jaguars from our boat in Porto Jofre in the Pantanal! We managed to stay with two brothers for almost half an hour, until they decided they had posed for far too many pictures and disappeared back into the grass… Or staying at Fazenda São Francisco de Corumbau! Such a heavenly place: deserted sandy beaches, coconut trees and clear blue waters. I have been dreaming of going back ever since.

I have so many wonderful memories of Brazil and I think very few countries offer so much diversity and possibilities. If my experiences inspire you, I can help you plan your own!”
