The Wild Coast in Brazil is one of the country’s highlights. You will go through three North Eastern states, Ceará, Piauí and Maranhão, in an unforgettable little known route. You will experience the wild side of one of the most incredible landscapes in the Northeast of Brazil, beginning in the colonial city of São Luis and ending in sunny Fortaleza visiting different ecosystems. The journey’s exotic name says it all: unlimited adventures, beautiful beaches and one of Brazil’s best route to practice ecotourism.
Arrive in São Luis where your guide and driver will meet you and take you by private car to your hotel. You will have some free time before bedtime so enjoy walking around the beautiful colonial centre of this charming city.
After breakfast you will be met by your guide to go on a journey of discovery into Brazil’s colonial past. São Luis is the capital of Maranhão and has preserved its history, culture and architecture over the centuries. It was founded by the French, taken by the Dutch and colonised by the Portuguese, and the result is a mixture of culture and architecture that has granted the city’s inclusion in the World Heritage list by UNESCO. With so much history to tell, you will be captivated by São Luis by walking around the charming historical centre with its cobblestone streets and squares adorned by colonial mansions, churches and fountains.
A fairly early start to the day as you will by picked up by your driver at around 7 am for a 3 to 4 hours journey to Barreirinhas. After checking into the hotel, you will visit the magical Lençóis Maranhenses in a 4×4. This National Park was created in 1981 to preserve an area of more than 155 hectares of magnificent white sand dunes and lakes, an endless landscape of amazing natural beauty.
Today you will take a different mode of transport to your next destination! Travel by private boat through the Preguiças River to arrive in Atins. Enjoy stops along the way in Vassouras, Mandacaru and Caburé. Total journey time will be around 3 and a half hours.
Another day of unforgettable journeys and adventures! You will board a private boat for a 15 minutes transfer to Caburé where you will change transport to a 4×4 to arrive in Parnaíba (total journey time around 5 hours). Here you will enjoy a private boat ride in the Delta do Parnaíba, in Piauí. This is a unique place with mangroves, natural lagoons, sand dunes and unspoilt nature.
After breakfast, you will be taken by private transfer in a 4×4 to Jericoacoara with stops at Camocim and Tatajuba in a journey of 4 hours approximately. Jericoacoara, also called Jeri by the locals, is a charming fishermen village that enchants through its natural beauty, with golden sand dunes, clear blue sea and unforgettable sunsets. Jeri is also famous for being an ideal place to practice water sports, such as kitesurfing and windsurfing. It has a laid back atmosphere and although it is opening up to international tourism, it still has an authentic and charming Brazilian soul.
Enjoy a day at leisure. You can either relax on the beautiful beaches to soak up the Brazilian sun or if you feel adventurous, we suggest adding a buggy ride to the lagoons Azul and Paraíso.
Time to say goodbye to the paradise of Jeri and to take a private 4×4 transfer to Fortaleza. Total journey time will be around 6 hours but you will have plenty of opportunities to stop to stretch your legs, take pictures and enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the wild coastline.
The capital of Ceará, Fortaleza is famous for enjoying great weather throughout the year and for its beautiful long stretches of beach surrounded by palm trees. Also known for its culture and gastronomy, it is easy to find good places to taste delicious seafood, lobsters, fish and tapioca (a northeast speciality). Today you will enjoy a private city tour that will take you on a discovery of both ancient and modern Fortaleza. You will explore its colourful streets, cultural centres and also some of its most famous beaches.
Today you will be taken by private transfer to Fortaleza airport to catch your onward flight.
Please note: Transfers are with driver only. In the Northeast of Brazil the level of English is still not very good, we suggest considering adding an English speaking guide throughout the trip for an extra total cost from £415 per person.
