The start of the Mediterranean summer sees European options coming into their perfect season, alongside a few longer haul destinations that are experiencing their autumns – this is a wonderful time the whole way around the world.

Summer holidays kick off in force in July, but if you want to escape the crowds, there’s some great options further afield.

August is a great time to get away from the UK, especially if you want a bit of guaranteed sunshine. The Mediterranean and North Africa are right on the doorstep and typically blazing hot: or you can choose to travel a bit further.

September is the start of northern hemisphere ‘shoulder season’ – meaning good prices, more temperate climates, and typically the end of the school holidays, if that’s important to you.
This is also a time when many longer haul destinations are particularly beautiful and well worth the flight.
