Where to go in January 2025

By Valeria Garibotti on 6th February, 2024

Some holidays need planning weeeellllll in advance.

For example, if you want to stay in the best boutique hotels in Uruguay, at the best time of year, you need to book your trip about 12 months before the jet hits the runway.

January is the time of year to go, so, for an utterly fab holiday, you should start thinking about it… well, now!

Of course, that’s just Uruguay.

Fleewinter offer holidays to more than 50 destinations (we have to pinch ourselves whenever we say that…) so how to know where you should go, and when you should start thinking about it?

URUGUAY

One of South America’s best kept secrets, Uruguay is at its most splendid in January. It is the height of summer here, so expect warm weather, clear blue skies and long days to make the most of exploring this hidden gem.

There is no better time to visit the whole country, from wine tasting in boutique wineries, horse riding in the countryside, visiting colonial towns and lazing on the beautiful beaches.

Yes there will be more visitors around, but the compromise is long days of sun and an intoxicating, lively atmosphere all around.

Uruguay is easy to travel, as there is no need for domestic flights and you can reach all the destinations by land. You can start in the west in the charming town of Colonia del Sacramento and the wineries of Carmelo, then a few nights in the lively capital and an extension at the end in either an estancia in the countryside or a luxury beach resort. No matter where you go, Uruguay is about slow travel and connecting with a charming culture and beautiful nature.

TANZANIA

In January, it is the dry season offering optimal conditions for safaris. January is low season in Tanzania, which means fewer crowds and some good deals on accommodation. With its rich cultural heritage, warm hospitality and vibrant festivals, Tanzania is an ideal destination for an unforgettable start to the New Year. The Great Migration is on the move in search of good grasses for their young. Predator encounters are likely to happen, as January is calving season and big cats come to visit.

January is fairly warm in Tanzania, temperatures ranging between 26 to 30 degrees Celsius. The sun is up early, for about 10 hours on an average. You should pack light clothing, hats, lots of sunscreens and always have enough water bottles while on a day tour. Snorkelling and diving enthusiasts will also love travelling in January because of the outstanding water clarity of over 25 meters!
