The natural world is spectacularly showcased in Belize. The jungles and reefs are teaming with life and offer opportunities to the people of Belize, along with much joy to any who encounter them. However both are extremely delicate ecosystems and face threats from increasing human pressures and climate change.
We want to support and encourage those working in the tourism industry with great respect for the environment and so have chosen sustainable lodges and hotels where we can.
Whilst you are on your trip, you can make small decisions that really help to lessen the impact that tourism can have on these precious wild spaces.
Here are some tips;
- Take a reusable water bottle with you and fill up rather than use plastic throw away bottles. You will find water filling stations at every hotel and people will happily refill your bottle for you when eating out.
- Share a transfer with others or take a bus
- Happy to reuse your towels? Let the hotel know and help reduce unnecessary water and energy use
- If it’s not too hot, turn the AC off/down and use a fan
Many of our partners in Belize are involved with some incredible projects that help support local communities and promote green initiatives. If you’d like to find out more about any of these and contribute, then let us know!
