Fishing in Belize

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Belize

A short local flight from Belize International airport will take you south into the Toledo District. Your first hotel is located in an ideal fly fishing location, perched right above the Rio Grande River. You will be warmly greeted at Punta Gorda airport and taken the short journey to this incredible eco-lodge in the jungle. Your first home in Belize is an award-winning lodge that offers luxury living in the jungle. Take your welcome drink to the pool and settle into that holiday vibe.

Day 2 - Fishing for tarpon and snook

Listen to all the wonderful jungle sounds as you sit down to a delicious breakfast overlooking the forest. Today you will fish on the Rio Grande River, a fantastic location to catch tarpon and snook. Your experienced guide will use his local knowledge to make sure you find the right spot but will also cater to your fishing preferences and shape the day as you wish. After an enjoyable days fishing, unwind by the pool and refresh with complimentary drinks. Tonight you will have another chance to feast in the restaurant and try more homegrown produce. This is a real farm-to-table experience!

Day 3 - Flats fishing for permit

After another tasty breakfast, your guide will take you to the coastal flats to fish for permit. The Belizean flats are world-renowned and a hot spot for permit. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced, your guide will patiently and with great care, make sure this is a trip of a lifetime. Return to the lodge for a relaxing sunset cruise on the river before dinner.

Day 4 - Fishing - you choose

Today is another fishing day and this time you can choose the location, depending on your preference. Head out to the flats again, or the Rio Grande, or perhaps you’d like to venture further out for some reef fishing. It’s up to you!

Day 5 - Lamanai and lagoon

After breakfast, you will transfer back to Punta Gorda airport for the short flight to Belize City. From here, you will be collected and travel to your next hotel, which sits on the banks of the New River lagoon. Your journey includes a boat trip across the lagoon which is a great opportunity to spot wildlife. After settling in to your home for the next two nights, set out on a complimentary guided activity of your choice. You can choose an informative Maya medicine trail, a nature walk, kayaking on the lagoon or simply relax in a hammock and watch the birds fly by.

Day 6 - Activity day

Today is your chance to learn more about the fascinating ancient Maya culture by visiting the Lamanai Maya ruins which are very conveniently located next door. A few hours later, you will be back at the lodge in time for lunch and can decide what you feel like doing for the remainder of the day. We recommend night spear fishing in canoe!

Day 7 - Belize Barrier Reef

Today you will transfer back to Belize City where you will catch a 15 minute plane journey to Ambergris Caye. Your next hotel is a stunning beachfront property, with the Belize Barrier Reef in view. After settling into your beach cabana, relax and enjoy a delicious fresh fruit cocktail in your new idyllic setting. You can spend the rest of today at your leisure. Cycle down to another beach bar, take a kayak out to the reef or simply flop on the beach.

Day 8 - Grand slam

Today you will have a full day’s guided fishing for tarpon and bonefish on a private boat. Your proximity to the reef means that you won’t need to travel far and so really get the most out of this day excursion.
