Flight to South Africa, arriving the next day
Upon arrival you will have a transfer from King Shaka International Airport – Durban to Umkhumbi Lodge. Settle in and relax after the flight.
In the afternoon you will enjoy a wildlife walk on the 500 Acre Kuleni Game Park, to be able to stretch your legs after the long flight.
St Lucia is situated close to the Southernmost point of the UNESO World Heritage site; iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
St Lucia Estuary is the gateway to the Eastern Shores of Lake St Lucia. The region contains the highest vegetated dunes in the world, extensive and diverse wetland systems, as well as coastal grasslands with an associated fauna which includes the Africa’s highest density of common reedbuck. Numerous waterfowl, grassland, forest, and sea birds provide an attraction to birdwatchers from around the world.
A two-hour boat cruise on the Estuary gives you the opportunity to see Hippos, crocs and the many birds, mammal and plant species that make this a World Heritage Site.
Today you will spend a full day exploring the African bush and wildlife.
Set in the heart of Zululand, the oldest game reserve in Africa where Zulu kings such as Dingiswayo and Shaka hunted and put in place the first conservation laws, where today the “big five” of African legend stalk the verdant savannah.
Established in 1895, game viewing is the prime attraction. Viewing hides overlook waterholes enabling visitors to see animals at close range. The Park covers some 96 000 ha and contains an immense diversity of fauna and flora. Hluhluwe is characterised by hilly topography, and this Northern section of the park is noted for its wide variety of both bird and animal life
As the home of Operation Rhino in the 1950s and 60s, the Park became world renowned for its white rhino conservation.
Hlane Royal National Park is a protected area in north-eastern Swaziland. A flat, lowland area with grassland and shallow pans, the park is traversed by the Umbuluzana River.
Roads and trails offer views of diverse wildlife such as lions, elephants, hippos, white rhinos, leopards, and giraffes. White-backed vultures and other raptors nest in the ancient hardwood trees. The park also hosts a colony of marabou storks.
Enjoy a sunset game drive
Sunrise Rhino drive – From the safari vehicle you will go in search of White Rhino and then a nature walk, to experience these majestic animals up close and personal.
Spend the afternoon relaxing at the waterhole or go on another Game Drive (Optional)
The Kosi Bay section of iSimangaliso, a rich tapestry of lakes which borders Mozambique, has been described as the last haven of untouched African paradise. It is a wonderland of blue sea and dazzling white beaches, wetlands and lakes and reed channels, raffia palm forests and mangrove swamps.
Exploring the area is only possible in a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
Boat trip exploring the lakes and channels of the lake system. The boat will drop us off at Bhanga Neck where we will go in search of the nesting sea turtles. Both Leatherback and Loggerhead Turtles use this protected Marine Sanctuary as their annual nesting sites.
Your day will include kayaking on the estuary, snorkelling in the mouth and a traditional Thonga fishkraal tour, rounded off with a traditional fishbraai with palm wine tasting. You can be assured that this will be the highlight of your stay in Kosi Bay!
On your last day at Umkhumbe Lodge you have time to relax and reminisce about the all you experienced along this journey.
In the evening you will enjoy a farewell dinner, before you fall a sleep to the sounds of the African nature one last time.
The next day you will have a transfer back to King Shaka International airport for your flight back home.
