If you fly to South Africa, there are two main points of entry, Cape Town and Johannesburg. Both airports are serviced with daily flights from London. However, often the flights arriving into Johannesburg are a little cheaper than going directly to Cape Town. In the event that your holiday starts in Cape Town, it would mean extra 3 – 4 hours. Coupled with the hassle of changing flights in busy Johannesburg. In other words, it might not be worth the few pounds you are saving.
If you are visiting Cape Town and want a direct flight, the only airline that offers this service all year round is British Airways. However from mid-October through to February, Virgin Atlantic do also offer a direct flight service.
South African Airways only fly directly from London to Johannesburg. Johannesburg serves as the major hub with daily flights from here connecting to most parts of South Africa and Southern Africa as well.
It is also possible to fly to South Africa via Amsterdam with KLM. Furthermore, Air France and Emirates also offer daily service from London. Both airlines fly to Cape Town and Johannesburg. Though in this case, you will have a stop-over.
To enter South Africa, it is necessary to have a valid passport with at least six months of validity from the date of travel. More information can be found under our ‘Travel Essentials‘
