Stay in charming boutique riads, enjoy private guided tours, and uncover some of Morocco’s most authentic destinations at a relaxed pace.
Highlights of This Northern Morocco by Train Itinerary:
Arrive in Casablanca and transfer to your hotel. In the early evening, enjoy a short guided city tour, including an exterior visit to the majestic Hassan II Mosque if time permits. For a memorable dinner, we suggest Rick’s Café — a stylish restaurant inspired by the film Casablanca.
After breakfast, take the morning train to Morocco’s refined capital, Rabat. In the afternoon, explore the city on a private guided tour. Visit the historic Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Andalusian Gardens. Quieter and more relaxed than Marrakech, Rabat charms with its elegance and authenticity.
Casablanca to Rabat (Approx. 1hr 20min by train)
Spend the day discovering Rabat at your own pace. Highlights include the Chellah Necropolis, the vibrant but compact medina, and chic local cafés. Optional experiences such as a cooking class or a guided visit to neighbouring Salé can be arranged.
Board the Al Boraq high-speed train and glide north to Tangier. After check-in, enjoy a guided afternoon walking tour of this fascinating port city, taking in the Grand Socco, Tangier medina, and the American Legation Museum. With its blend of European and Moroccan character, Tangier feels cosmopolitan yet distinctively North African.
Rabat to Tangier (Approx. 1hr 20min by high-speed train)
This morning, visit the legendary Hercules Cave and scenic Cape Spartel, where two seas meet. Continue through Tangier’s stylish suburbs to the artistic coastal town of Asilah. Known for its murals and Portuguese ramparts, Asilah is a photographer’s dream. Return to Tangier in the late afternoon.
Take a full-day trip to the striking blue town of Chefchaouen, nestled in the Rif Mountains. You can also opt to visit Tétouan, with its well-preserved medina and Andalusian heritage, or hike to the waterfalls in Akchour — a serene choice best visited on weekdays to avoid the crowds.
Catch a direct train from Tangier to Fes. On arrival, check in to your riad and enjoy a peaceful evening in this enchanting city.
Tangier to Fes (Approx. 4hrs 30min by train)
Uncover the treasures of Fes el-Bali on a private tour. Wander through its narrow alleys and souks, visiting the Bou Inania Madrasa, the tanneries, the Nejjarine Fountain, and the view-only Kairaouine Mosque. Fes is one of the world’s most authentic medieval cities — a true cultural gem.
Take a relaxed excursion to Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, followed by a tour of the nearby Roman ruins of Volubilis. Both sites offer historical richness and a slower pace, ideal for a day outside Fes.
Travel back to Casablanca by train for your final evening in Morocco. Depending on your departure, enjoy a farewell meal or a stroll along the Atlantic-facing Corniche.
Fes to Casablanca (Approx. 4hrs by train)
Optional: End in Fes If you’d rather skip the return to Casablanca, your journey can conclude in Fes. There’s a direct Ryanair flight from Fes to London Stansted — ideal for those looking to fly home from a different airport.
