Morocco makes a fantastic family holiday for children of all ages. If you have a week then our usual recommendation is a combination of the coast and Marrakech with a daytrip to the Atlas Mountains, however, there are subtle variations. For families with young children more time on the coast and the outskirts of Marrakech rather than the centre, whereas if the kids are teenagers then we recommend one of the traditional riads in the centre of Marrakech – although even then 2 or 3 nights is usually enough. The best bet to discuss your family holiday in Morocco is to call us for a chat.
Arrive at Marrakech airport and within 5 minutes of clearing customs you are on the way to the coast around Essaouira with one of our drivers. The journey itself is a fascinating introduction to Morocco. As you leave Marrakech you will see camels, mules and donkeys, storks nesting in mosque towers, whole families piled on a scooter and the hammada desert with the Atlas looming behind. As you near the coast the landscape softens with hills of olive trees and the Essaouira countryside’s most famous sight – goats grazing in the branches of argan trees…
Some people like to stay in the centre of Essaouira but the most popular option for families is Rebali Riads just to the south for the proximity to the beach, the selection of pools and the attention from the staff. This trip is based on a family of 4 in a private villa so you get your own space but also daily service including breakfast served on your private terrace each morning
There is so much to do at Rebali and in the area you will struggle to fit it all in and many people choose a week or more just here. A visit into Essaouira is essential for shopping or an evening meal – other favourite family activities include:
– Quad bike tour of the dunes
– Moroccan cooking demonstrations
– Camel trekking on the beach
– Amazing horse riding
– Surfing and kitesurfing lessons
– Visits to the local Berber village for lunch
And if this is too much rushing around send the kids on a tortoise hunt in the Rebali Gardens and relax by the pool or sneak a visit to the spa…
You can switch to Marrakech on day 4 or day 5 depending on your requirements. If you have older children then we suggest opting for a riad in the centre of town but for this itinerary we are suggesting Oasis Lodges around 30 minutes out of town. It is a fabulous place to stay with direct access to Oasiria Water Park.
For the days around Marrakech we recommend the following:
– A full day in the Atlas Mountains including a guide and lunch in one of the Berber Villages (included in the price)
– An evening trip into Marrakech to explore the souks and see the main square come to life
– Lazy time around the beautiful pool…
It is only 30 minutes back to the airport and your driver will arrive in plenty of time for your flight. Being so close makes it a relaxing end to a holiday with plenty going on for all the family
Cost for the 7 nights including private transfers and the day trip up to the mountains is from only £600 per person excluding flights. This is on B&B basis and is based on 4 people in a private villa at Rebali and a family bungalow at Oasis Lodges.
You can get flights from as little as £100 per person return and do ask us for advice. Alternatively we can book the flights for you but a booking fee may apply.
All prices correct at the time of writing. Give us a call or email us at morocco@fleewinter.com to discuss your requirements and get a confirmed price.
Please remember this is a sample itinerary and we are happy to modify it to suit your plans. We can add or remove days and look at different places to stay.
