Marrakech has to be the ultimate weekend break. Just 3 hours from London with plenty of low cost airlines flying in, but it couldn’t be more different from the UK. The culture, the language but most of the all, the architecture in the Medina. The walled part of the city is the oldest and in our view it is the best place to stay. It is where you find the “riads”- courtyard houses converted into guesthouses and boutique hotels – and this is where you will stay. This means you have the souks and the markets on your doorstep, you can walk to see many of the historic sights and best of all, you are close to the famous entertainers and food stalls of the Place Jemaa al Fna
Our driver will meet you and take you straight to your riad. After checking in and enjoying a mint tea, take a horse and cart trip around the city as a fun way to help you get your bearings.
For a great value place to stay with oodles of style and charm we suggest Riad el Zohar right in the middle of the Medina. However part of the fun of going to Marrakech is choosing where to stay so give us a call on 0207 112 0019 for our personal recommendations. Click for full details of Riad el Zohar
Spend the next 2 days enjoying everything Marrakech has to offer. Take an early morning visit to the Majorelle gardens before it gets too hot and all the bus loads of tourists arrive. Spend afternoons visiting the various mosques and historical sites, not forgetting to indulge yourself with a traditional Moroccan exfoliation and massage in a local hammam.
On your last full day you can relax at the riad, go shopping but we’d strongly suggest a day trip to the mountains (extra cost). The favourite is to leave after breakfast with our driver and head up to Imlil and then a mountain guide will take you away from the tourist traps for a gentle (or vigorous) walk, finishing with lunch in one of the villages
Your driver will collect you at your riad for the short trip back to the airport and your flight home, assuming you manage to get all your souvenirs and memories within your baggage allowance….
This itinerary costs from £185 per person B&B based on 2 sharing and including all private transfers but not flights. If you take the trip to the mountains that will add around £95pp including transport, mountain guide and lunch in a Berber Village.
You can get flights from as little as £100 per person return and do ask us for advice. Alternatively we can book the flights for you but a booking fee may apply.
All prices correct at the time of writing. Give us a call or email us at morocco@fleewinter.com to discuss your requirements and get a confirmed price.
Please remember this is a sample itinerary and we are happy to modify it to suit your plans. We can add or remove days and look at different places to stay.
