This is as close as we get to the traditional holiday of; arrive, lie by the pool, depart… but of course there is much more to it than that. Yes, the main feature is a good spell by the coast but with so much to see and do, it can be tough to find “pool time”. Additionaly, we think it works best if you bolt on a couple of days in Marrakech or the mountains at the beginning or the end or, as in this case, both. Start your trip in the old city of Marrakech from where you will be transferred to the coast to finally finish off with a couple of nights in the Atlas Mountains. A multi-centre Morocco holiday with a difference!
Arrive at Marrakech airport where your driver will meet you and take you the 15 minutes into the old Medina and you will find your riad, a traditional merchant house converted into a boutique hotel. There are lots of places to choose from and Riad Chergui is a good choice as it is well located and has a proper swimming pool rather than the “plunge” pool in most riads.
Spend the next 2 days enjoying everything Marrakech has to offer. Take an early morning visit to the Majorelle gardens before it gets too hot and all the busloads of tourists arrive. Spend afternoons visiting the various mosques and historical sites, not forgetting to indulge yourself with a traditional Moroccan exfoliation and massage in a local hammam.
Lastly, and not to be missed is the main square at night where you can wander amongst the snake charmers, storytellers and henna tattooists before sitting atop a rooftop bar with a chilled glass of wine watching the action unfold beneath you.
Your driver will collect you from your riad and take you to the coast. Here our favourite place to stay is Rebali Riads where you have beautiful pools and gardens and miles of beach. You can just have a room but if you are a family it is best to have a villa, even with your own pool
Essaouira and the surrounding area is our favourite part of Morocco. The town is about 20-30 mins drive away for shopping and restaurants and you can either go by bus or taxi or have a car for a few days. There is also tons to do at Rebali itself: camel trekking, horse-riding, surfing, cooking courses, tennis and an onsite spa. And if you have a minute relax by the pool…
From the coast head back towards Marrakech but this time stay up in the Atlas Mountains. A spectacular place to stay is Kasbah Bab Ourika perched on its own summit overlooking the Ourika valley. A great base for some mountain walks, visits to the markets in the surrounding villages and just soaking up the views. You are also only an hour away from the airport so finishing here makes for a relaxing journey home.
From the Atlas it is just an hour or so back to Marrakech airport so hopefully a lazy start before our driver comes to pick you up
Cost for the 10 nights including private transfers in air-conditioned vehicle is from £780 per person B&B (excludes flights) based on 2 sharing a double room. This also make a fabulous family holiday for children of all ages.

Do you fancy having a chat about “Essaouira Sandwich”? Personally, it's one of our favourite things to talk about.
