This is a long weekend trip with a bit extra…Normally for 4 nights we wouldn’t recommend changing your accommodation but the distances are so short and with our private drivers door-to-door service it is so easy. You get two full days in Marrakech, which is plenty of time to see the main sights and soak up the atmosphere and then a full day in the Atlas Mountains for a completely different flavour of Morocco. A chance to take in the views and stroll through the villages and farms or even a day of more serious trekking.
Arrive at Marrakech airport where your driver will meet you and take you straight to your riad. A mere 15 minute transfer and then a 5 minute stroll through the medina. There are lots of lovely riads in Marrakech and for this trip you stay in Riad El Zohar, right in the centre of the souks and an easy walk to everywhere.
Enjoy everything Marrakech has to offer. Take an early morning visit to the Majorelle gardens before it gets too hot and all the busloads of tourists arrive. Spend afternoons visiting the various mosques and historical sites, not forgetting to indulge yourself with a traditional Moroccan exfoliation and massage in a local hammam.
Lastly, and not to be missed is the main square at night where you can wander amongst the snake charmers, storytellers and henna tattooists before sitting atop a rooftop bar with a chilled glass of wine watching the action unfold beneath you.
On the third day you transfer up to the mountains. With Fleewinter we try and be flexible and so you can go first thing if you want to maximise your time in the mountains or if you’d rather spend more time in the souks then stay in Marrakech until later in the day. Either way you’ll be up in the mountains for dinner and your first night at Douar Samra. Accommodation is basic but very comfortable and the atmosphere is fabulous, probably because the location is so integrated into a traditional Moroccan village.
Do you take it easy and just soak up the views and atmosphere or do you book a guide and get some miles and altitude under you belt? Or just stay on the sun terrace with a book all day. Tough choices.
It is only 90 minutes back to the airport and your driver will arrive in plenty of time to head down through the passes and back home. A great mix of Marrakech madness and the peace of the mountains
Cost for the 4 nights including private transfers is from only £280 per person. This is on a B&B basis in Marrakech but half board up in the mountains and is based on 2 sharing a double room excluding flights.
You can get flights from as little as £100 per person return and do ask us for advice. Alternatively we can book the flights for you but a booking fee may apply.
All prices correct at the time of writing. Give us a call or email us at morocco@fleewinter.com to discuss your requirements and get a confirmed price.
Please remember this is a sample itinerary and we are happy to modify it to suit your plans. We can add or remove days and look at different places to stay.
Do you fancy having a chat about Marrakech & Atlas Mountains? Personally, it's one of our favourite things to talk about.
