Welcome to southern Patagonia! This is where your eyes will gaze at vast landscapes, majestic glaciers, granite peaks and so much more. Here, it truly feels like the end of the world thanks to its remoteness and wilderness. This is a must destination if you are travelling to Chile!

Punta Arenas is the major airport to reach one of the region’s highlights, Torres del Paine National Park, and although it is a charming town we do not suggest an overnight here, unless you are boarding a Patagonian or Antarctic cruise. Or if you love penguins, as there are excursions from here to Isla Magdalena where you can come up and close to a colony of Magellanic penguins!

From here, you will either take the 5 hours journey to you accommodation in Torres del Paine or you can spend your nights in Puerto Natales, a typically Patagonian town and a seaport on the Señoret Channel. Staying in Puerto Natales and taking daily trips to Torres del Paine (around 3 hours by car each way) can be a much cheaper option than choosing one of the hotels in the park. In addition, by staying here, you can explore other highlights of the area that you would not be able to if you were in one of the park’s lodges. There are plenty of accommodation choices in Puerto Natales, from the luxury 5* hotels like Remota and the Singular to charming boutique lodgings like Vendaval, Vinnhaus and Simple Patagonia. Some are very central within walking distance to bars and restaurants whilst others are on the town’s outskirts, perfect if you want to find peace in the stillness of nature. We suggest a minimum of 3 or 4 nights in Puerto Natales in order to make the most of your stay.

Carretera Austral

Route 7, otherwise known as the Carretera Austral, runs for 1240 km from the lake region in northern Patagonia to the region’s southern part. It lends itself to a once in your life self-driving adventure and will take through some of Patagonia’s most beautiful and hidden places. It has far less tourists than places like Torres del Paine so if you want an off the beaten track holiday this is where you have to go! Accommodation is in the form of mountain lodges, comfortable and rustic, but don’t expect a vast choice or super luxury hotels. But this is why you want to travel here, for the pure pleasure of exploring and witnessing nature at its best. We totally tailormake itineraries to the Carretera Austral, so speak to our Chile specialists to craft your perfect adventure!

Santiago
The capital of Chile is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city worth spending a few nights in. My favourite places are Lastarria and Bellavista neighbourhood, where you can find plenty of bars, restaurants and boutique shops to keep you entertained, and still close enough to the city's highlights.
Atacama Desert
The Atacama Desert will surely not disappoint you if you are looking for out of this world landscapes! San Pedro de Atacama is the gateway town to this world wonder, and with plenty of desert lodges for all budgets, 3 nights or more in the region are a must!
