Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Colonia del Sacramento

Today your Uruguay adventure starts in one of the most charming destinations in the country. Arrive at Colonia port where a private car will be waiting to take you to your hotel.

In the afternoon, explore the city, declared World Heritage by the UNESCO. Founded by the Portuguese and disputed for years by the crowns of both Spain and Portugal, Colonia’s magical history remains intact. Walk along the charming cobbled streets guided by your local guide and discover the different sites.

Day 2 - Wines and cheeses of Colonia

Our day begins with a transfer to Bodega el Quinton to enjoy a visit to the vineyards and olive plantations followed by wine and olive oil tasting. Continue onto La Vigna Cheese Farm. Learn about the production of local cheese and taste some of the best cheese varieties in the area guided by the “Cheese Architect”.

DAY 3 - From Colonia to Carmelo

Today you will catch the private transfer with guide to Finca Narbona. On the way you will stop for a visit to Calera de las Huérfanas, where there is an interesting wine production.

In the afternoon, transfer to Puerto Camacho where you will enjoy an unforgettable activity: Rio de la Plata Sunset Cruise (1.5 Hours service approx.) Enjoy a relaxing tour through the islands of the Delta, where the waters of Río de la Plata and Rio Uruguay meet.

Day 4 - Carmelo's wineries and tasting

After breakfast you will meet with your local guide, for a tour to Carmelo’s Wineries, with tasting & lunch.

You will visit two wineries of the Carmelo’s region. Bodega El Legado is a family-owned winery that began when Bernardo Marzuca and his family, decided to buy back the family vineyards that once belonged to Bernardo’s father. The winery visit includes a guided tour along the vines, wine cellar, and production area and a tasting of 3 wines
paired with cheeses, salamis, and olives.

Bodega Cordano is a small family-run winery nowadays led by Ana Paula Cordano and her husband, the 5th generation of the family. The visit includes a guided tour of the production areas and vineyards and a stop at “Almacén de la Capilla”, a vintage grocery shop founded in 1855 by Antonio Cordano. The visit finishes with a tasting of 3 of their best wines and a delicious homemade lunch.

Day 5 - Travel to Montevideo

Transfer from Carmelo to Montevideo (without guide) and lunch at the Port Market.

After lunch meet with your local guide, for a walking tour of Montevideo. Get to know the history of the adjacent buildings, including the Independence Square, the historic Palacio Salvo, the President ́s office and the mausoleum of national hero José Gervasio Artigas. Dive into the history of the capital city where you will stroll along Sarandi Pedestrian Street, and the Matriz Square, where the Cathedral of Montevideo and the town ́s Cabildo are located. Visit two museums of your choice.

Day 6 - Tour of Modern Montevideo with visit to Lobo Nuñez drums luthier

After breakfast you will meet with your local guide to enjoy a tour of Modern Montevideo.

Today you will visit the different neighbourhoods of Montevideo that started developing after the demolition of the Old City Walls on September 1829. Unlike the Old City, La
Ciudad Nueva (the new city), was planned with wide and tree lined streets, with magnificent stores and residences.

During the tour, we will include a very special visit to the studio of Lobo Nuñez, an Afro-Uruguayan drums luthier and percussionist considered a “legend” within the Uruguayan Candombe music genre.

Day 7 - Jose Ignacio

Meet your guide for a transfer to Jose Ignacio. On the way, enjoy our Eastern Wines & Olives Tour. The experience begins at the olive plantations of Olivos de las Animas where we will learn about the process of extra virgin olive oil and enjoy a tasting and exclusive lunch at the home of our friend Martin.

You will then continue onto Bodega Altos de la Ballena, a local family-run winery
located on the rocky outcrops of Punta Ballena, an exceptional place where the wines combine the climate of the hills and freshness of the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy a visit and tasting before continuing to your hotel.

Day 8 - Tour to Punta del Este and evening cooking class

Panoramic tour of Punta Del Este with visit to the lively La Barra where we will cross the famous undulated bridge just before arriving to the Brava Beach of Punta del Este.

Evening cooking class at the home of a local chef. We have designed a special cooking class to expose you to the best that the local products have to offer. You will spend a lovely day with “hands on” instruction by one of our professional local chefs so that you take not only your memories home, but also some great recipes and techniques to add to
your own collection. After dinner, Transfer back to your hotel.

Day 9 - Visit to Garzon, the Uruguayan Tuscany

Meet with your guide in the morning for a private tour. You will begin with a visit to the sleepy town of Garzon, where we will stop at the main square, chapel and train station. Continue onto Garzon Winery for a visit with tasting and lunch included. Built atop a rocky outcrop, the winery offers amazing views of the vineyards perched on the hillside with mineral intense, well-draining soils that create high-quality grapes. After lunch, transfer back to your hotel.

Day 10 - Adios Uruguay

Today a private car will drive you to Montevideo airport for your flight back home.

Or if you are going back to Buenos Aires, you will be driven to the port for the ferry back to Argentina’s capital.

This itinerary costs from £3,377 per person B&B and is based on two adults sharing a room. The price includes all transfers, tours, and any other meals if mentioned. It does not include international flights.

International flights tend to cost between £800 and £900 per person return if booked well in advance – do ask us for advice. Alternatively we can book the flights for you but a booking fee may apply.

The best option might be to look at flights to Buenos Aires. From here you can easily get the ferry to Colonia and for the return, there are regular ferries between the Argentine capital and Montevideo. This itinerary is based on this as it starts in Colonia, the nights needed in Buenos Aires are not included in this itinerary as it is only here to inspire your perfect Uruguay holiday.
