Unfortunately there are no direct flights from the UK to Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital. You have two options:

  1. Book a flight with a stopover. Iberia has regular flights via Madrid, for example, or you can fly LATAM via Sao Paulo in Brazil. If bought well in advance you can get flights for around £800/900 per person and there is little difference in price between the two options.
  2. This option is our favourite as you can fly direct to Buenos Aires – although in 2024 British Airways will operate the Heathrow to Buenos Aires route via Rio de Janeiro – spend a few nights in the Argentine capital and then get a ferry to Colonia del Sacramento – or Montevideo – and start your adventure in Uruguay. With this option you can either get the ferry back to Buenos Aires and fly internationally from back to the UK, or you can fly from Montevideo. In this case you will need an ‘open jaw’ ticket and we can help you with this.

Option 2 works well if you like to see another South American city or you simply want to go back to Buenos Aires for a few days. Plus the ferry journey to Colonia is very pleasant and starting a Uruguay holiday from this colonial gem makes the logistics easier.
