Sailing, Watersports and Diving

St. Kitts’ warm turquoise waters are inviting for a day on the sea. Catamaran cruises and full day tours depart from Port Zante and visit Shitten Bay and Nevis.  Half-day, sunset, full moon and private charter cruises are also available.

Glass-bottom boat trips are offered which carries up to 12 passengers on morning, sunset and late evening cruises with underwater lighting used to enhance the after-dark experience.

Adventure enthusiasts will get a thrill doing the jet ski snorkel adventure, flyboarding/hoverboarding, kiteboarding, windsurfing, powered paragliding. Deep sea fishing, hobie cat, yacht charters and more are all available.

Diving
If diving appeals, both St. Kitts & Nevis offers various options, from near-shore reef diving to wreck and cave diving.   Sites are dotted around both St. Kitts & Nevis, with some wrecks dating back to the 17th century.  The islands offer divers shoals, hot vents, shallows, canyons and walls which appeal to novices and experts alike at depths between 40 and almost 200 feet. Sea life includes squid, rays, octopus, barracuda and turtles.

There are a number of dive operators that offer packages and also lessons – including PADI – for beginners.

To see the leatherback turtles on the beaches the St. Kitts Turtle Monitoring Network offers nocturnal observation trips from April 15 to June 15 annually.

Snorkelling
Shipwrecks are usually the preserve of divers but in St. Kitts snorkellers too can enjoy gazing at wrecks as well as the multi-coloured sea life.  A popular spot is White House Bay on St. Kitts’ South East Peninsula. Both shallow wrecks are marked with buoys, one a 20th century tugboat while the other is a British troop ship, with five of its cannons clearly visible, from the 1740s that first became visible again in 1999.  The island’s reefs also offer unsurpassed opportunities for snorkelling with Cockleshell Bay and Banana Bay especially renowned. Snorkel gear can be rented at some beaches.
