Dining Out and The Art of Limin’

Anything can be a lime, as long as you bring the right attitude. It’s what makes life on the island so laid-back and easygoing: a lightness, and a willingness to prioritize joy. Good company and good vibes, with the occasional cocktail or two.

Kittitians learn to lime early on, and it’s never too late to try your hand at it. A warm spot on the sand, a seat at the bar with some close friends, an evening stroll—it’s all limin’, as long as you’re enjoying yourself.

Foodies are sure not to be disappointed with their St. Kitts holiday experience.  From street food to fine dining, there are options for the various palettes and budgets.

Fresh fish is an important part of the Kittitian diet and everything from lobster and mahi mahi to red snapper will frequently adorn menus as will conch fritters, chowder and various other shellfish.   Great places to try dishes and mix with Kittitians  are the beach bars on The Strip in Frigate Bay such as Mr. X’s Shiggidy Shack.

The local food scene is also alive around the island.  This includes the ever-popular ‘Saturday food’ – goat water (stew), black pudding and souse (pig’s feet) – as well as local favourites such as stewed saltfish, johnny cakes and pelau ‘cook-up’ (a one-pot of rice and various meats).  Foodie experiences give visitors an opportunity to tuck into samples of traditional Kittitian food.  They can join in a tour to cook with a local Chef and get a hands-on lesson on how some well-known Caribbean dishes are prepared.
