Hiking

St Kitts’ geography offers a great opportunity to reveal the inner hiker . Tours are available and take visitors through the steamy rainforest which is teeming with life.  For those looking to get a better view, the trail opens up onto the (dormant) volcano of Mt. Liamuiga, where following a hand-over-hand trek up the mountain side, hikers will (weather permitting) be able to peer down into the crater and see bubbling hot springs.

Walkers are likely to get muddy and therefore appropriate walking equipment is recommended, including comfortable walking shoes and long trousers as well as a light jacket or sweater for the chilly 3,792 ft. mountain summit.

Other sites to explore include half-day hikes in the deep rainforest canyon at Bloody Point or Wingfield. Keep your eyes peeled for green vervet monkeys as they scamper and swing through the trees whilst admiring the vast range of flora and fauna.  Experienced trail guides  are easily available for those wanting inside knowledge and guidance on the best trails to explore.

Bird-watching

If you can tell their Bank Swallow from your Brown Pelican, then a bird watching tour is certainly something to look out for.  With close to 200 bird species having been counted on St. Kitts, there is no shortage of ornithological opportunities for visitors to take advantage of.  At a moment’s whim you can find yourself staring upwards in Frigate Bay for the area’s namesake bird or exploring Mt. Liamuiga looking for the once-thought-extinct St. Kitts Bullfinch.

Bird watchers are encouraged to make their own way round the island to cultivate their appreciation for the birds and their habitats.  There are however local birding enthusiasts who are keen to share their insights and happy to arrange an organised tour. Any birds spotted can be noted and shared here www.birdsofstkittsnevis.com.

Zip-lining
And for some real adrenaline producing activity, you should try the five-line zip-wire adventure at Sky Safaris, the longest of which is the 1,350 feet ‘The Boss’. It runs some 250 feet above a wooded valley.

Horseback riding
Horse riding adventures along the beach, through the rainforest or on a mountain trail are fantastic ways to experience the island from a higher vantage point.

Visitors can saddle up for a slow ride along the beach as the crystalline waters of the Caribbean Sea lap gently at the horse’s hooves or take a guided tour of the High Mountain Rain Forest. Here visitors will spot a wide variety of plant species including bamboo, wild coffee and the Royal Poinciana (the national flower of St Kitts). Alternatively, you can tempt your sweet tooth with a visit through swaying sugar canes.

The two most popular stables are Trinity & Royal, both which we can assist you in booking.

Biking

Active holidaymakers may well fancy undertaking a mountain bike tour to various parts of the island. Options include tours to the interior and northern end of the island as well as to the (less strenuous) South East Peninsula.

Other options in St Kitts are 4×4 safaris, quad biking, ATV Tours at  Wingfield Estate and at Fairview Great House & Botanical Gardens.
