Should you let Artificial Intelligence plan your holiday?

Should you let Artificial Intelligence plan your holiday?

Should our new world of limitless internet-indexing advice and robotic opportunity extend to the decisions we make in real life?

As one Conde Nast travel writer discovered, asking an AI tool such as ChatGPT to plan your holiday can return some *interesting* results.

So should we be worried about the impact that AI will have on our industry?  If travellers start letting AI plan holidays, will tour operators be needed any more?

That’s a big question for a small friendly company.

While artificial intelligence does of course have some benefits – no longer will we sit and stare at instagram posts trying to come up with the relevant hashtags, that can be outsourced – artificial intelligence also seems to have a worryingly convincing answer to everything.

Should you let it make decisions that affect your real, tangible life…?

It’s fairly inevitable that artificial intelligence will affect your life somehow

After all, it’s a great tool!  Why spend time trying to make sense of a lot of information if you can ask a clever internet robot to automate a process for you?  The little time some things take up, the better.

But that’s not what holidays are about.

We go on holiday to disconnect from the day to day, to reconnect with ourselves and to come home feeling grounded and more peaceful.  (PS, did you know we’ve got some great mindful holidays?)

Also, given how limited holidays can be in a year, that time is pretty valuable.  You don’t want to waste a second of it.  And how do you trust an AI, that’s only ever read about what to wear sailing in Greece, tell you what you should pack.  That sort of thing is a bit more trustworthy coming from a human.

Similarly – AI is going to draw from the whole internet, which is a lot of information.  Tour operators exist to know the details, to figure out the best things to do and best places to go for you – and to know things like where the best chefs are working this year.  While you don’t have time to find these details out – AI doesn’t have the nuance to interpret them.

Leave holiday planning to the experts.

Fleewinter experts spend months, and sometimes years, living in their chosen destinations.  And we love a conversation.  When you get in touch to start planning a holiday, we’ll call you.

We want to know what makes you tick.  Why are you going on holiday?  Who are you going with?  What do they like doing?  Is there anything we can arrange that’ll make this trip just that extra bit special?  You don’t like olives?  We’ll ban them! (well… from your room, at least!)

Planning a holiday is a job that belongs to a real person.  Someone with lived experience, real genuine advice – someone who understands nuance, who takes the time to understand what you really want.  Someone you don’t have to worry about!

So, in answer to the question, “should you let artificial intelligence plan your holiday?” our answer is a firm no.

Leave the AI to instagram captions.  Let the real experts plan your holidays.
