How to spend a week in Morocco

A Week in Morocco from Marrakech

Are you planning a week-long trip to Morocco and starting your adventure in the bustling city of Marrakech? Well, you’re in for a treat! Morocco is a land of diverse landscapes and rich cultural experiences, and there are countless possibilities for your itinerary.

In this blog, we’ll share some of our favourite recommendations to make the most of your one-week stay.

A Mix of Marrakech and the Coast

For a balanced experience, we suggest splitting your week between the coastal town of Essaouira and the vibrant city of Marrakech. This way, you get to relax by the sea and immerse yourself in the vibrant energy of the “Red City.”

During your stay in Marrakech, consider adding a day trip to the Atlas Mountains. It’s an easy hour-and-a-half drive from Marrakech, and the change in scenery is striking. The Atlas Mountains offer a refreshing contrast to the city’s hustle and bustle.

Marrakech and Trekking in the High Atlas Mountains

If you’re a mountain enthusiast, why not split your time between Marrakech and a few nights of trekking in the High Atlas Mountains?

You have a variety of accommodations to choose from. For a touch of luxury, consider Kasbah Tamadot, owned by the renowned Richard Branson, or the newer Olinto hotel, highly praised by our clients.

Families with active kids might love Kasbah Angour, which offers not just trekking but also enriching activities like cooking lessons and market visits.

For those planning longer treks, Douar Samra in Toubkal National Park is a fantastic basecamp. From here, you can embark on adventurous multi-day treks, including the popular summit of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. The duration of your stay in the mountains depends on your preference.

A Night in the Desert without too much travelling?

Many travellers dream of spending a night in the desert. While reaching the Sahara Desert can be quite a journey (up to 9 hours), we have an alternative suggestion: the Agafay Desert.

Although it’s a stone desert without the iconic sand dunes, it offers a unique experience. You can enjoy camel riding, quad biking, stargazing, and stay in luxurious tents. You can easily incorporate this desert night into any of the previously mentioned itineraries or extend your stay by one or two nights.

The Sahara Desert Experience

If you’re determined to experience the Sahara Desert, it’s possible within a week. We recommend combining it with your stay in Marrakech. We break the trip into manageable segments, ensuring you have a comfortable journey to the desert camp and back. The drive is substantial, but the magical night in the desert is absolutely worth it.

Rest and Relax in Marrakech

Of course, we haven’t overlooked those who are seeking a more relaxing getaway or perhaps returning visitors looking for a different side of Morocco. There are enchanting rural retreats in the outskirts of Marrakech that provide the perfect opportunity to unwind while staying within a short drive from the bustling old town with its charming shops and delectable restaurants.

These fabulous hotels boast lush gardens, expansive pools, and an ambiance that exudes tranquility. They offer a serene escape where you can recharge your batteries and enjoy the best of both worlds – the peaceful countryside and the vibrant city life just a stone’s throw away.

The choice is yours

In the end, the choice of your Moroccan adventure depends on your preferences. Whether you opt for the coastal breeze, mountain tranquility, or the desert’s enchantment, Morocco promises an unforgettable journey.

So pack your bags and get ready to explore this captivating country!
