Enjoy the colors, flavors and rhythms of the “Uruguayan Candombe” first hand. This experience will take you to the southern borough of “Palermo” where the “comparsas” (Candombe bands) rehearse each Saturday and Sunday afternoon all year round only to perform each February at the “Llamadas” Parade.
The rehearsal takes place in the streets where the musicians light up fires on the sidewalks to warm up the “lonjas” (leather of the drums) and begin to perform their music while walking around the neighborhood surrounded by joy and dancing. Palermo and Barrio Sur are the two neighborhoods where the Candombe was born and therefore, where the experience is the most authentic. You will meet a member of the Candombe band and join the crowd in their celebration!
