Tony’s Tips

By Alisdair Luxmoore on 4th June, 2014

“We are now big fans of Morocco and are busy recommending it. We enjoyed Essaouira and Marrakech very much, although I found haggling a bit of a fag; just put a reasonable price on it in the first place and I will pay it! On the other hand, my wife thought it great fun. We would recommend Essaouira for a long weekend break by the sea. We didn’t find Marrakech intimidating (just say no and walk on; it’s not difficult) or even that difficult to find our way around in. Either the whole thing is exaggerated or people are incredibly timid and nervous. I would recommend a haircut and shave in Marrakech but you need to ensure that you agree the price up front. We liked the Bahia Palace and the Majorelle  Gardens. We also enjoyed our horse and carriage ride.

We ate well on trip with the exception of the mountain visit. We experienced no tummy troubles. Our favourites would probably be Caravane Café and Gwana Blues in Essaouira and La Jardin in Marrakech, where we ate lunch and dinner. We liked the fresh fish grills by the harbour in Essaouira and a café bar right at the far end of the beach, the name of which escapes me [Chalet de le Plage I think-AL]. We drank Moroccan wine every night and didn’t have a bad bottle. ” Tony M May 2014
