Easter Island is one of the world’s most remote places and it deserves to be included in a Chile holiday. It is not a beach destination per se but it is full of mysticism and an ancient, mysterious culture.

It will be completely different from anywhere you have ever been and you will be glad to have included it in an unforgettable holiday to Chile!

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Rapa Nui!

Upon your arrival, a private car with guide will take you to your hotel, a boutique property where you will spend 4 nights in a standard room with daily breakfast.

Day 2 - Full day excursion to the Moais and Anakena beach (shared)

On today’s excursion you will discover the natural and historical highlights of Rapa Nui. You will leave the town of Hanga Roa behind and drive along the black coastline, accompanied by great views of the peninsula Poike. Today’s stops include Vaihu, the  “Camino de los Moai” (Moai trail), passing several sculptures lying on the side of the road. Once you reach Ranu Raraku (the quarry where all moai were sculpted) you will have a delicious picnic lunch, before starting your ascent of the correspondent volcano. Here more than 300 statues can be appreciated, some of them half-carved, many broken, but all will give you an insight in the incredible culture of Rapa Nui.

From the edge of the volcano you can also enjoy the view of a crater-lake. You will make another cultural stop at the recently reinstalled Ahu Tongariki and its 15 moai, before taking a small break at the beautiful Anakena beach.

Day 3 - Half day Ahu Akivi (shared)

Today you will be picked up to experience Ahu Akivi with its famous 7 moais, built in the middle of the island. The legend tells that these statues are representing the 7 explorers who were sent to Rapa Nui by the king Hotu Matua. You will leave the town of Hanga Roa and drive through beautiful hills to your first stop, the ceremonial place of Tahai. This archaeological site forms an integral part of the Rapa Nui National Park and was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO.

You will proceed to the unrestored Ahu Hanga Poukura where you can see a huge platform where the moais, now knocked down and facing the ground, used to stand.

Day 4 - Half day Orongo (shared)

In the morning, we will drive to the extinct volcano Rano Kau. Along the way, we will enjoy panoramic views of the entire island and make a brief stop at a viewpoint that will allow us to glimpse the crater lake.
From there, we will head to the ceremonial village known as Orongo, where we will learn about its history, culture, and the story of the birdman cult. We will also have the opportunity to observe a variety of petroglyphs and three islets located off the coast.
Next, we will descend from the volcano to Ahu Vinapu, which includes an ahu with interesting masonry and at the end of the tour, we will visit Hanga Piko cove.

Today a private transfer will take you to Santiago Airport where you will board a flight back to Chile’s mainland.

Adios Rapa Nui, hasta pronto!

DETAILS -

This itinerary is an extension to a Chile holiday and costs from £1,645 per person based on two adults sharing accommodation and services throughout.

Domestic flights to Easter Island can vary in price if booked last minute as there is only one daily flight and it can get full months in advance, we therefore advise booking early if you want to include Rapa Nui in your Chile holiday.

PLEASE NOTE: a night in Santiago is necessary when coming from Easter Island as otherwise it would be difficult to connect with flights to other Chilean destinations.

Please remember this is a sample itinerary and we are happy to modify it to suit your plans. Give us a call or email us to discuss your requirements and start planning your Chile holiday!

Santiago
The capital of Chile is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city worth spending a few nights in. My favourite places are Lastarria and Bellavista neighbourhood, where you can find plenty of bars, restaurants and boutique shops to keep you entertained, and still close enough to the city's highlights.
Atacama Desert
The Atacama Desert will surely not disappoint you if you are looking for out of this world landscapes! San Pedro de Atacama is the gateway town to this world wonder, and with plenty of desert lodges for all budgets, 3 nights or more in the region are a must!
