This tour takes in the highlights of the south – from the bright lights of Saigon and the underground tunnels of the Vietnam War to cruising the mighty Mekong Delta and spending your last days on a beautiful beach; the south has so much to offer. And better still, you don’t have to catch a single internal flight (unusual for Vietnam holidays).
Day 1 - Set down in Saigon
Welcome to the modern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City (also known as Saigon). After being driven to the Majestic Hotel by chauffeur you will begin a city tour with a difference. With an expert guide, take a tour on a Vespa motorbike to see the highlights including French Colonial architecture, a colourful flower market, China town and the historic Opera House among other sights. Enjoy your evening at leisure – we love the kitsch decor at the historic Majestic Hotel, which has one of the best rooftop bars in the city (colonial deluxe pool view room)More Info
Day 2 - Diving deep into the war history
This morning you will be driven to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, More than 200 km of tunnels were built here by the Vietnamese guerrillas, where they lived and fought during the American War. You can explore the bedrooms, meeting rooms, air-raid shelters, smokeless kitchens, and experience a unique underground world. In the afternoon, visit the War Remnant Museum and the Reunification Palace in Saigon before enjoying the evening at leisure.
Day 3 - Explore the Mighty Mekong
Set off for the Mekong Delta by private vehicle this morning, which will take up to four hours. Once arriving at the mighty Mekong, a vast mass of water which is 1.5km wide at points, you will board your one-night river cruise on a 12-cabin wooden boat modelled on the traditional rice barges. Lunch will be served as you meander down the canals and rivers of the Delta. You will visit a local village and enjoy the sunset and dinne on deck before anchoring for the night on river Mang Thit (standard cabin).More Info
Day 4 - Life from the riverside
Enjoy an early breakfast on deck at 6.30am as you make your way down Co Chien river and Cho Lach canal, watching the river world go by. Expect to see everything from masses of fruits drying on boats to wooden ship building yards before taking a tour of a large floating market. At about 10.30am you will be driven back to the Hotel Majestic in Saigon, where you can enjoy the rest of your afternoon at your leisure (colonial deluxe pool view room).
Day 5 - Time to hit the beach
This morning you will be driven to the fabulous beach destination of Mui Ne. Your private transfer will take four to five hours, but the beach is more than worth it. One of Vietnam’s sleepier beach towns, you will be rewarded with wide sandy shores, delicious seafood and a picture perfect resort. We love the cosy beach bungalows at Mia Resort, which spill out onto the beach and ocean beyond (Sapa House garden view room)More Info
Days 6 - 9 - Relaxing on the beach
Enjoy four full days at the beach relaxing and soaking up the sand, surf and sea. Mia has a fantastic restaurant so you may not wish to stray too far but there are plenty of other lovely dining options and bars around. You may also wish to take an excursion to the impressive red and white sand dunes of Mui Ne, where you can even attempt sand sledding. Mui Ne is also renowned for its kite-surfing.
