Stone Town is the capital of Zanzibar island and is a world apart. Specifically reflecting the vibe and heart beat of an African city. In fact there is something special about Stone Town. Firstly being a harbour town and secondly, the central hub of this tropical island. However, you cannot help but get caught up in the atmosphere. For example take a stroll along the streets of the historical quarter, with its Muslim influenced architecture. In addition, many talented artists selling their crafts. Afterwards visit the fruit and meat markets, which is an experience to just walk through.
Zanzibar is a small island and it is possible to do just a day trip from any of the beach resorts. However, the real way to experience Stone Town is to spend a night or two here. Furthermore there is the Spice Farms that offer an interesting tour. Another option is to take a boat off to Prison Island which is just few kilometres from the harbour.
