Most people include a visit to Zanzibar after doing the safari circuit in either Tanzania or Kenya. However if you are only going to be visiting the Zanzibar island, the best flights to Zanzibar are with Kenya Airways. They fly daily directly from London to Nairobi and then you will take a connection flight across to Zanzibar.
British Airways also flies three times a week to Dar es Salaam. From here you would take an internal flight across to the island. KLM also fly daily to Nairobi and you would then take a connection flight to Zanzibar. Virgin Atlantic also fly via Nairobi to Zanzibar. Although only in the high season (UK summer months) and you would change planes in Nairobi.
There are also a host of other airlines that fly from mainland Europe to Zanzibar (usually via either Nairobi or Dar es Salaam). However, we do recommend to keep to the larger airlines. For the reason that most of these flights have more than one stop. Hence, the risk of delays is higher and can impact the start of your holiday.
If you taking on a more ambitious holiday including South Africa then you are able to fly directly from Johannesburg to Zanzibar – flights are not daily but if you wanting to see more of the African continent then this is an ideal way to include southern and east Africa into one holiday. You can visit our South Africa Tours pages for more details about what is possible here or better yet, give us a call on 0207 112 0019 and we will help with the ‘headache’ of deciding which is the best way to include Zanzibar into your African beach holiday.
