If you like lazing on the beach or by the pool all day then Cape Town makes a great holiday, but to make it really special do set aside time for exploring the area. You could do something different every day for a month without repetition and before you go you will get our famous guide on best restaurants and how to use your time most efficiently but for now here is a summary.
Winelands Visit. The “must do” is a trip to the wine growing area around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, about 40 minutes drive east of Cape Town. There are about 30 wine estates with beautiful architecture, lovely gardens, excellent restaurants or picnics and of course tours around the vineyards and wine tasting. Even if you are not a wine buff, it makes a great day out. We have a range of wine tour options that we recommend but for those with particular tastes we can tailor to suit. We recommend a driver for the day and will be happy to arrange one for you.
Table Mountain. The most obvious landmark of Cape Town is also a great half day excursion, taking the cable car up to the plateau on the top of Table Mountain. Not surprisingly the views are stunning and for a real sense of achievement why not save the cable car fee and walk up? (Actually I can think of about fifty good reasons why not).
Penguins at Boulders. A slightly surprising entry in the Cape Town top 5 is sunbathing with penguins at Boulders Beach. This combines nicely with a trip down to Cape Point and is always very popular with children aged 8-80.
Kirstenbosch Gardens. Stunning botanical gardens on the wind free side of Table Mountain – a great change of scene from the beaches.
Whale-watching. If you are in Cape Town between July and November a day trip to Hermanus (about 90 mins) is essential to see the majestic Southern Right Whales, easily viewable from the shore.

- A day in the West Coast National Park 40 miles north of Cape Town

- Daytrip or overnight to a Safari Park and much more more….
