Upon arrival in Antananarivo, you will be warmly greeted and seamlessly transferred to your chosen accommodation, where you will settle in for the night.
Depending upon your arrival time, consider an insightful city tour, allowing you to immerse yourself in Antananarivo’s vibrant atmosphere. Explore bustling daily and craft markets, admire the city’s unique three-tiered architecture, including the historic upper town with Christian buildings dating back to the 1800s, and discover significant monuments of central Imerina such as the majestic Queen’s Palace (Rova Manjakamiadana), the former Prime Minister’s Palace of Andafiavaratra, and the historic Law Court.
Following breakfast in Antananarivo, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Morondava. Upon arrival in Morondava, the capital of the Menabe Region, situated at the Morandava River delta and famous for the iconic Avenue of Baobabs, you will be transferred to your hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, there may be an opportunity for a visit to Betania, a traditional Vezo fishing village located south of Morondava at the river’s mouth, offering a glimpse into the local coastal life. The evening concludes with dinner and an overnight stay at your chosen hotel, preparing you to explore the wonders of Morondava and its surroundings.
After breakfast, embark on a scenic overland journey to Bekopaka (approximately 198km, a 7-hour drive). Your travel will include unique ferry boat transfers across both the Belo sur Tsiribihina and Manambolo rivers, adding to the adventure. Upon arrival in Bekopaka, a town in western Madagascar known for its rice cultivation alongside bananas, maize, and cassava, you will check in for dinner and your overnight stay, ready to explore the region.
Enjoy an early breakfast before dedicating the entire day to exploring the breathtaking Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park, focusing on the impressive Grand Tsingy. Marvel at the unique karstic rock formations, some soaring over 60 meters high, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Your exploration of this park, where a remarkable 85% of the park’s plant species and diverse wildlife are endemic, including birds, lemurs, crocodiles, and the endemic fossa, will be punctuated by a delightful picnic lunch amidst this extraordinary landscape. This Baobabs and Tsingy itinerary costs from £1,850 per person sharing and includes all private transfers but not domestic or international flights.
