This 9-day “Pirate Island” itinerary takes you from the capital, Antananarivo, through tropical rain forests of the east, to Andisabe where lemurs will throw themselves at you for some banana.  Witness essential oil distillation, go for a night hike and chill out on the deck marvelling at the rainforest.  Travel by boat along the Pangalanes Canal to AkAnin’ny Nofy (Palmarium Park) where you will hopefully track down the elusive nocturnal aye-aye.  Travel to Sainte Marie, the old stomping ground of famous swashbuckling pirates like William Kidd who inspired Robert-Louis Stevenson to write his novel “Treasure Island”.  Among the attractions is the pirate cemetery where you can see tombstones inscribed with the skull and cross bone insignia.  Explore the island, relax on the powdery white beaches and snorkel/dive amongst spectacular coral reefs inhabited by rainbow-hued fish.

This itinerary should serve as inspiration and provide a starting point of what can be tailored to suit your particular travel needs.
