Your 6-day Avenue of Baobabs Malagasy adventure begins with a warm welcome to Antananarivo, the “City of Thousands,” where you’ll settle into your chosen boutique accommodation, La Varangue or Maison Vue Royale. Depending on your arrival time, delve into the city’s rich history and vibrant culture, exploring bustling markets, unique architecture, and historical landmarks like the Queen’s Palace. The following morning, a flight transports you to Morondava, the gateway to Madagascar’s western wonders. Here, discover the unique Zazamalala Garden, a haven for endemic wildlife, including the world’s smallest primate. After an overnight stay, journey to the Kirindy Reserve, a biodiverse dry forest teeming with lemurs and unique flora. The day concludes with a mesmerizing sunset at Baobab Avenue. Immerse yourself next in the local Vezo fishing culture with a visit to Betania village, followed by an option to explore Morondava town. Finally, a flight returns you to Antananarivo for a final overnight stay, before your onward travels.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Antananarivo

Upon arrival in Antananarivo, Madagascar’s vibrant capital, you’ll be warmly greeted and transferred to your chosen boutique accommodation. Known as the “City of the Thousands,” Antananarivo, established in 1610, sits at the island’s heart, offering a fascinating blend of cosmopolitan energy and rich history. Depending upon your arrival time, embark on an exploration of the city that will reveal bustling daily and craft markets, a unique three-tiered architectural landscape, and significant historical sites, including the Queen’s Palace (Rova Manjakamiadana), the former Prime Minister’s Palace (Andafiavaratra), and the historic Law Court, providing a captivating introduction to Madagascar’s cultural and political centre.

Day 2 - Zazamalala Zoological and Botanical Garden

After breakfast, you’ll transfer to the airport for your flight to Morondava, the gateway to the captivating western landscapes of Madagascar. Upon arrival, your exploration begins at the unique Zazamalala Zoological and Botanical Garden, a wilderness oasis established by the visionary Simon Rietveld. This deciduous forest, interspersed with ponds and neighbouring villages, provides a sanctuary for a remarkable array of endemic wildlife, including the world’s smallest primate, Madame Berthe’s Mouse Lemur, the Red-fronted Lemur, the elusive Fossa, and a variety of reptiles and mammals. You’ll conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3 - Kirindy Reserve and Baobab Avenue

Following breakfast, embark on a two-hour drive to the Kirindy Reserve, a 100-square-kilometre tropical dry forest in western Madagascar, renowned for its diverse and endemic wildlife. After exploring Kirindy and enjoying lunch at Relais du Kirindy, your afternoon journey returns to Morondava, culminating in a breathtaking sunset viewing at the iconic Baobab Avenue. Kirindy is a haven for nature enthusiasts, boasting over 20 lemur species, including the captivating Verreaux’s sifaka and the critically endangered Madame Berthe’s mouse lemur, amidst its unique flora and fauna. Dinner and overnight accommodations at your chosen hotel.

Day 4 - Morondava River

After breakfast, immerse yourself in the authentic Malagasy fishing culture with a morning visit to the picturesque village of Betania, home to approximately 500 Vezo fishermen and nestled at the mouth of the Morondava River. You’ll have the option to explore the charming town of Morondava itself, experiencing its local markets and atmosphere. As evening approaches, you’ll return for dinner and overnight accommodations.

Day 5 - Antananarivo

Following breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight from Morondava back to Antananarivo. Upon arrival in the capital, you’ll be transported to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 6 - Bon Voyage

After a final breakfast in Antananarivo, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your onward journey, departing Madagascar with cherished memories of your adventure.
