St Lucia is a hiker and nature lover’s dream. Lush rainforest, waterfalls, volcanic ridges and The Pitons, nature trails, national parks, marine reserves, beautiful beaches and historical sites. This Hiking in St Lucia itinerary involves a twin stay in the Soufriere area and on a small bay in the North West. The Gros Piton hike is a reasonably arduous one so is best for the adventurous but the views are simply stunning. The Pigeon Island National Park is a moderate hike where you can explore the island and learn about the island’s rich history and culture. If you’re looking for something a little easier and more family friendly The Tet Paul Nature Trail is a lovely short hike suitable for families (as is Pigeon Island) or if you really want to get off the beaten track, there’s a lovely rainforest trail and hike to a hidden waterfall. The itinerary includes snorkelling in marine reserves, a bean to bar chocolate experience, a sunset cruise and visit to the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens and sulphur baths. Excursions are interchangeable so you could go scuba diving, horse riding or biking through cocoa plantations and beaches or zip-lining past the Pitons, for a rum tour or learn to ‘Cook Like a Lucian. The options are endless in St Lucia.
You will be greeted at the airport and whisked away (45 min drive) to Fond Doux Eco Resort in the Soufriere area to relax and unwind after your flight.
Why not go for an evening snorkelling session at Anse Chastanet with its house reef and Marine Reserve.
Spend today simply unwinding at Fond Doux Eco Resort by the pools and exploring the plantation. Catch the 5 minute shuttle to the beautiful white sand beach; Sugar Beach where you can simply relax and go snorkelling if desired.
Alternatively, you could explore the former capital of Soufriere.
Later this afternoon embark on a stunning sunset cruise around the beautiful bays with the pitons as your backdrop
Get an early start this morning so you avoid the Midday heat. You will be taken by car to the base of Gros Piton (short drive away) where you will meet your guide (mandatory) so you can start your ascent. The hike is quite arduous and takes 4-6 hour so it is for the more adventurous. You will mainly be in the shade of the rainforest. The views are incredible. The first section of the hike is the easiest while the second half is a bit more a gruelling steeper scramble but with wooden rails and handholds to assist you. Afterwards, reward yourself with some locally made ice cream from the shack near the base of the Piton.
You will be transferred to your beach hotel south of Rodney Bay and Gros Islet where you will spend the next 4 days. You could stop off at the charming town of Anse le Ray and Marigot Bay en route. Settle into your hotel, laze in an ‘in-ocean’ hammock, enjoy the hotel facilities.
