The Greek Islands are famed for their crystalline seas, ancient attractions, mouth-watering cuisine and warm hospitality. Summer is when most visitors choose to explore its countless islands, while spring and autumn are the best times of year to marvel at the myriad of archaeological sites dotted around the country.

The Ionian Islands
Most coastal villas and hotels are open from April or May until the end of September, some into October. The weather can be a little iffy in April and October, but worth the risk, as can be glorious! May to September expect sunshine, blue skies and balmy weather, you’d have to be pretty unlucky to get much else.

Crete
Being the southern-most island that we feature, Crete is blessed with a lovely long season and lovely weather pretty much from April until the end of October, so if you are planning a Greek escape in low season, Crete is a great choice for balmy climes.

Kastellorizo
Located just a 20 minute ferry hop from the Turkey’s beautiful south-west coast, the tiny island of Kastellorizo benefits from a long, hot summer from May until October, gorgeous in the Spring and Autumn, combined with a stay in Kaş or Kalkan in Turkey.

The Saronic Islands
The beautiful Saronic islands of Hydra and Spetses are reached by ferry from Athens, and the season runs from May to October, an ideal opportunity to combine with a few nights in the Greek capital.

Athens
Like any city, Athens is a year round destination, a wonderful city break even in the depths of winter. Spring and Autumn are the best times for sightseeing, and there are a lot of sights to see! Avoid July and August for this, it’s just too exhausting in the height of Summer!
