If you want to visit the highlights of Argentina but want to keep the costs down, then this could be the perfect trip for you. We have used some of our lead in accommodation choices which are often small and simple but certainly don’t lack in character, as well as a couple of shared services to minimise costs on long journeys but ensuring you don’t miss out on any of the sights along the way.

A holiday to Argentina is never complete without a visit to Buenos Aires where we will show you all of the city’s highlights, before we fly you to Salta from where we will take you on a tour to Cafayate and the Valley of the Shells – expect to be blown away by these desert landscapes. From there it’s onto Puerto Iguazu in the very north of the country, where a series of 275 waterfalls is spread over two countries: Argentina and Brazil. Both sides are equally stunning so we’ll make sure you have time to marvel at both sides of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This itinerary is here to inspire you as all of our holidays are tailor-made to suit you. We’re happy to add or subtract days, change hotels, and adjust as you see fit. Welcome to the ‘Paris of Latin America’. Upon arrival at Buenos Aires’ Ezeiza Airport, you will be greeted by one of our English‐speaking guides who will privately escort you to the Own Recoleta Boutique Hotel, just steps away from Avenida del Libertador and 9 de Julio. Buenos Aires day tour

Day 2 - Best of Buenos Aires

Today we will take you to the most important highlights of the city: the Plaza de Mayo Square, the Mayo Avenue and the oldest neighbourhood in Buenos Aires: San Telmo. Live and feel the original Tango in La Boca, walk along Caminito Street and see the mythical Boca Juniors soccer stadium. Visit Puerto Madero and pass through the Retiro neighbourhood before moving on to Palermo before arriving at Recoleta where you will discover the final resting place of Eva Peron. Tango Show at night.

Salta Argentina

Day 3 - Hola Salta

Today, you will be privately transferred to the airport for your flight to Salta, at the foothills of the Andes mountains. The city’s nickname is Salta la Linda (“Salta the beautiful”), and we love its old, colonial architecture, excellent weather and natural scenery of the valleys westward. Private transfer to your hotel in the city centre. Accommodation in Standard Room.

Salta church

Day 4 - Explore Salta

The day is yours to enjoy in Salta. Visit the Catedral Basílica de Salta, the most recognizable sight in the city, learn about the Inca culture or take the cable car up to San Bernardo Hill for some sweeping vistas over the city. Make sure to get a taste of the region’s fabulous wines.

Cachi Argentina

Day 5 - National parks and breathtaking landscapes

Today, we will take you to Cachi via the Cuesta del Obispo, an amazing feat of road engineering, passing 3348 metres above sea level. From here, it’s on to Los Cardones National Park, famous for its giant cacti. After, we continue on to the legendary Ruta 40 through the Calchaquies Valley. As the sun sets, the mountains change colour, making for some of the most beautiful scenery of your holiday. Overnight in Cafayate. Accommodation in Standard Room.

Cafayate

Day 6 - Valley of the Shells

After a tour of Cafayate, a charming wine town, you head back to Salta up the Route 68 through the Valley of the Shells. The valley is strewn with vast, bright red rocks and there are many photo stops to admire the incredible rock formations and viewpoints in the valley. Back in Salta, you will be transferred to your hotel. Accommodation in Standard Room.

Llamas Argentina

Day 7 - From Salta to Puerto Iguazu

Today we will fly you to Puerto Iguazu in Misiones, another completely different part of the country. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel in the middle of the jungle and just about 15 minutes from the centre of town. Accommodation in Forest Room.

Iguazu Falls

Day 8 - Argentinian Falls

We always start the tour early in order to beat the crowds and get the first train to the Devil’s Throat. There are walkways over the islands which take you to a balcony over the falls and the most spectacular view of the entire Devil’s Gorge. You will then have plenty of time to walk the paths on the upper and the lower circuit. These suspended walkways are detached from the jungle surface so as to protect the fauna by preventing disruption of the natural trails. Then, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Iguazu jungle wildlife

Day 9 - Brazilian Falls

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the park across the border (don’t forget your passport). Once inside, you will transfer onto the park authority’s buses. From the first balcony there is a great panoramic view of the Argentinian side of the falls. From the Brazilian side there are gorgeous panoramic views of the lower Iguazu River and the Devil’s Gorge Canyon. After, you will be transferred to the bus station for your overnight bus to Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires street market

Day 10 - Last day in the capital

Upon arrival at Retiro bus stop, you will be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy your last day in Buenos Aires, take a Tango lesson, visit one of the famous steak houses or simply relax at the hotel pool. Accommodation in Junior Room.

Mate tea

Buenos Aires
In Buenos Aires, Argentina's cosmopolitan capital, you'll find graceful plazas, tango shows, melancholic melodies, historic buildings reflecting European grandeur, trendy bars, nightlife every night of the week, steak dinners, an emerging art scene and a Latin flair.
There is so much to do and see that you could spend weeks in "the Paris of South America" but to catch the highlights, we recommend at least 3 days in this exciting city.
Las Cataratas de Iguazú
The spectacular Iguazu Falls are located within the Iguazu Falls National Park on the Northern border of the Province of Misiones. This series of 275 waterfalls is at the heart of the Paranaense Rainforest, where the Argentine, Brazil and Paraguay borders meet, and where the cities of Puerto Iguazu (Argentina), Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil) and Ciudad del Este (Paraguay) face each other.
We recommend at least 2 nights in Puerto Iguazu so you can visit both sides of the falls. They are very different and both are jaw-dropping.
Parque Nacional Los Glaciares
Perito Moreno is one of the highlights of Argentina. This vast glacier is located in the Parque Nacional Las Glaciares, close to the town of El Calafate. Whether you watch its huge ice blocks collapsing into the lake from the viewing platform or take a hiking tour on the glacier itself finishing at the only bar in the world where the ice is older than the whiskey, the glacier's scale and shades of white and blue will leave you speechless.
We recommend at least 2-3 nights in El Calafate, the gateway to the National Park.
Mendoza
Mendoza is famous for its Malbec wine and vineyards in a spectacular setting, but there is so much more to enjoy. From white water rafting, fly fishing for trout, horseback riding in the Andes at sunrise, biking through the vineyards, to climbing Mt. Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America, there are plenty of ways to experience this region. We recommend at least 3 nights in Mendoza.
Salta "La Linda"
Set at the foothills of the Andes mountain range, Salta is at an elevation of 1,152m. The city's architecture is spectacular and you can see the influences from bordering Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile. While it's worth spending at least one or two nights in Salta, build in time for the surrounding area. Take a day tour to El Cafayate and marvel at the unique mountain formations and desert colours on the way, or an overnight tour to Cachi in the Calchaquí Valley, known for its adobe houses and white colonial buildings, surrounded by snow-capped mountains.
Peninsula de Valdes
The Peninsula de Valdes, a nature reserve in Northern Patagonia, is best known for whales, sea lions and elephant seals. Probably the largest draw are the Southern Right Whales (Ballena Austral) that come to take shelter in the natural bays of the peninsula between June and November. We recommend spending at least two to three nights in Puerto Madryn, the gateway to the peninsula.
Bariloche and the Lake District
San Carlos de Bariloche, simply known as Bariloche, is situated in the foothills of the Andes and is Argentina's most popular destination for skiing and hiking. Its ever-present views of the glacial lake Nahuel Huapi are spectacular, but the area is also a foodie hub, well known for its traditional asados (BBQs), choloatiers and micro breweries.
Ushuaia
Ushuaia is the capital of the Tierra del Fuego area in the southernmost tip of South America, often nicknamed the “End of the World.” Nestled between snow-capped Andean mountains and the shores of the Beagle Channel, it is an adventure hub where guests can visit national parks, kayak and hike, crab fish, visit penguins or explore old shipwrecks. In the winter, you'll find the world's southernmost ski resort, Cerro Castor.
