A gorgeous boutique hotel within the historic heart of Bhaktapur, The Nanee offers a unique glimpse into Newari culture.
Within the guest rooms, decor is contemporary and elegant, creating a place of peace that feels just a little like home. Exposed brick and local artwork plus traditional Newari door handles and locks situate the space squarely within this beautiful heritage city. Deluxe rooms have one king or two single beds and a sitting area and are quite comfortable for two adults. Nepali Suites are our top pick with their king-sized beds, hot tubs, and ample space for relaxing or (gasp, getting caught up on email). There are two loft rooms, each one unique. One is a Deluxe room with space for two adults and one child separated by an open staircase. The Loft Suite has a private balcony although we find the layout of this room a touch tricky as luggage can only be stored on the lower level while you'll spend your time on the upper lofted floor.
In addition to your own sitting area, you can relax on the rooftop or in the small theatre-style space off the main courtyard which can also be used for storytelling or a discussion with your guide or host.
The hotel's restaurant has air conditioned indoor seating and outdoor tables where you might see neighboring residents going about their daily lives. The menu is a mix of Nepali and international fare and we highly recommend that you try the local yogurt at least once during your stay. People from Nepal come to Bhaktapur for this unique curd when celebrating weddings or other milestones. Just outside the hotel's entrance is The Barashop with its traditional kitchen and fresh bara. It's a great way to try this simple street food knowing you needn't worry about hygiene as you might on the street.
Bhaktapur is about 30-45 minutes from Kathmandu airport depending on traffic and The Nanee is located within the historic district. A variety of restaurants and shops and all the sites of town are within walking distance.
