RAAS Chhatrasagar is a luxury tented camp on a reforested 1,500-acre birder’s paradise, by the shore of a massive reservoir, 110 km from Jodhpur.
110km from Jodhpur, this glamp – with sound-proofed, air-conditioned tents – occupies a waterfront corner of a reservoir, on a 1,500-acre private wildlife reserve. Each of the tents comes furnished in materials like Jodhpur sandstone and teak wood, and uses textiles that illustrate local flora and fauna. The reservoir is in Nimaj, Rajasthan, and was built in the late 19th century by a nobleman of a Jodhpur court. His aim was to provide locals with a perineal water source. RAAS Hotels took over the property in 2019, and since then much of the land that was abandoned by agriculturists has been naturally rewilded using indigenous species of flora. Today apart from the many mammals – neel gai, deer, jackals, foxes, porcupines and wild hogs – that call the reserve home, the area attracts over 250 species of birds, both resident and migratory. Pelicans, snipes, golden orioles, and green-winged teals, to name a few. Not surprisingly, RAAS Chhatrasagar’s a hit with children and nature lovers.
