Luxury thermal treatments in Europes oldest spa centre
One of five luxury properties owned by the well-known family-run Borile Group, the hotel has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. It has maintained its classic charm with a blend of Belle Époque architecture and modern amenities. The interiors feature luxurious furnishings, elegant Murano chandeliers and art pieces that reflect its heritage.
The hotel offers a variety of rooms and suites, each elegantly decorated with a blend of traditional and contemporary styles with something for every taste. Many rooms have balconies or terraces with views of the gardens or the surrounding hills.
The star of the show is the thermal water and thermal mud. The unique water springs from a source in the hotel grounds at 86°C. The water is cooled and used in various pools, thermal baths, spa treatments and even skincare products. This water is then mixed with clay from the Euganean Hills and left to mature for at least 60 days, creating the famous Abano Mud. Officially tested and certified by the University of Padua and patented throughout Europe, the thermal mud and water has a pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effect.
Outside in the extensive gardens, you have a choice of three pools filled with thermal water at varying temperatures and one indoor pool also filled with thermal water. The state-of-the-art spa facilities include thermal steam rooms, sauna, ice room and kneip walk. Combined with the luxury treatments of the White Spa, it is a wellness experience that will delight the senses and ease the soul.
While tastes will be pleasured at Restaurante Diaz, here the Italian gastronomic culture merges with the health of the Mediterranean diet. What feel like over indulgent feasts are balanced with specific ratios of fibre, protein and fat. Dishes like bulgur timbale, vegetable noodles and prawns on creamed potatoes or spelt pie, roasted celeriac cream and baby carrots in oil. With full board, four course lunches and dinners are offered with a daily changing menu along with a la carte menus. Special menus for lighter eating and supporting immunity have also been created while specific diets can also be catered for.
Other options include a light lunch or snack in the park or poolside at La Dolce Vita Grill and Bar. Cocktails at the historic Secret Bar or in the elegant parlour.
This historic hotel is situated in the heart of the pedestrian area of Abano Terme. The thermal centre has been welcoming tourists for over 2000 years making it one of the oldest spa destinations in the world. Being a favourite of the Romans the name in fact comes from the Greek “à ponos” which means that it takes away pain.
A walk around the town (although it is really a small city with a population of 19,000) shows many examples of revared Italian architecture. Strolling in the town centre means discovering the history of the last two centuries: from neoclassical villas, Belle Epoque hotels, of which Grand Hotel Trieste and Victoria is the best example and more modern hotels. Like many Italian areas it has been let go in some areas but recent investment and development especially by Borelli family who runs the GB Hotels, shows love and life coming back.
Once you have had your fill of Abano Terme there are many famous areas near by to explore like Padua ( 20 minutes away), Verona (50 minutes away) and of course Venice. (45 minutes away) all easily accessible by public transport or private transfer.
