Nestled in the granite hills with wild horses roaming in the plains below, Desert Horse Inn offers a majestic stay en-route to the Fish River Canyon or the famous Sossusvlei dunes.
Large old camel thorn trees greet camping guests at the Desert Horse Campsite in a small valley of the Aus Mountains. Each of the ten sites is equipped with a tap, table, grill and windbreak. Neat shower and toilet facilities are within easy reach of each site.
Guests can choose between twin rooms, 3-bed and 4-bed units. The twin unit comes with 2x ¾ beds, while the 3-bed unit has 3x single beds and the 4-bed unit has 2x single beds and 1x 2-sleeper bunk bed. All units are en-suite with showers and have a lounge with a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. Each unit also has a private veranda from which guests can enjoy the surrounding views.
Barbecue packs are available at the reception of Desert Horse Inn (1.5 km); those who like to skip cooking for a change are more than welcome at the Inn's restaurant (subject to space available, please enquire upon arrival). Note there are no power point outlets at the Desert Horse camp. If you have equipment that need to be charged it can be done at reception of Desert Horse Inn.
The main area at the Inn is charming and welcoming and consist of a reception area with a lounge and curio shop on the lower level. The lounge area leads out onto a large raised wooden deck with wooden chairs and tables where guests can relax and take in the surrounding views. There is also a beautifully designed restaurant with dark wood floors, high ceilings and large glass windows opening onto some stunning desert views. Leading off from the restaurant guests will find a well-stocked and uniquely decorated bar, while outside they will find a large crystal-clear pool with sun loungers dotted around it.
Activities at the lodge include cycling, as well as game drives and self-guided walks through the refreshing landscapes. We also highly recommend one of the scenic sundowner drives offered! Nearby, guests can enjoy cultural tours, natural history tours and some general sight-seeing. For the more adventurous there is also horse riding and mountain biking.
