Empire Hotel Brunei - EOB001

Initially built as a palace for visiting royalty, this opulent hotel is unlike any other in Borneo

With gold leaf touches, incredibly high ceilings, and a foyer to marvel at, the Empire Hotel and Country Club's roots as a palace are evident everywhere you turn. On the shore of the South China Sea within the small nation of Brunei, this luxurious hotel offers service to match its impressive design.

Rooms are located in multiple wings. Our favourites are the ocean-facing rooms in the East Atrium Wing. These are closest to swimming pools, restaurants, and the beach with lovely views. As part of the main building, they also feel a bit royal. This wing is home to the E Club Lounge, accessible to guests staying in Deluxe E-Club rooms and Executive Suites. In addition to serving breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy-hour mocktails, the E Club lounge provides a relaxing place to sit and look out over the water.

Additional rooms are found in the Waterfall, Seaview, and Lagoon Buildings, each a short walk or buggy ride from the main facilities of the hotel. The sounds of a waterfall can be heard throughout the atrium of the Waterfall Building, a unique touch of bringing the outside in. Guest rooms throughout the property have elegant touches such as marble counters and floors in the washrooms, plush carpets, warm furnishings, and Brunei-inspired artwork. All have private balconies, some ocean-facing. For those wishing to truly feel like royalty, the Ambassador, Empress, and incredible Emperor suites offer unparalleled luxury. The Emperor Suite is accessed by private elevator and has its own swimming pool, sauna, steam room, grand piano, and movie theatre. These exclusive suites are often used as the building was originally intended: for visiting dignitaries and guests of the Sultan of Brunei.

A full country club sits on the grounds of The Empire Hotel with an 18-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, driving range, putting green, Bunker Bistro Clubhouse, pro shop, and full fitness facilities. There are indoor squash and badminton courts, a lap pool, two fitness rooms including one designated as women-only, sauna, spa, outdoor tennis courts, and more, all available to guests of the hotel (greens fees and other charges apply for use of certain facilities). The hotel also boasts a bowling alley, privately owned cinema, an infinity pool, grand lagoon large enough to kayak within, kids pool with water slide, and a kids activity centre. Bicycles and kayaks are available for hire.

On-site dining options are numerous. The Atrium Café serves breakfast and lunch; Zest offers light fare and snacks; and the Lobby Lounge offers afternoon high tea. Pantai & Zen Pavilion offer indoor and al fresco dining with a seafood BBQ, Teppanyaki grill, and prime rib buffet. A poolside bar serves snacks and mocktails throughout the the day. The Bunker Bistro serves upscale clubhouse fare and Spaghettini rounds out the dining options with Italian and Mediterranean cuisine in the evenings.

The Empire is located twenty minutes from downtown Bandar Seri Begawan and fifteen minutes from Brunei International Airport. Car hire and local transfers can be arranged directly with the hotel as can a variety of local tours.
