For many visitors to Penang, a tour of the Blue Mansion is a highlight of their time. Built in the 19th century by Chinese tycoon Cheong Fatt Tze as a residence, office, and monument to his Hakka heritage, the mansion is of architectural and historical significance. Carefully restored in the 1990s, the mansion is now home to a boutique hotel. Guest areas are cordoned off to provide privacy during daily tours.

Throughout the hotel are ornaments, artworks, and adornments that belonged to Cheong Fatt Tze and his family. Guests rooms are furnished with a mix of contemporary and classic pieces in line with the mansion's historical integrity and level of luxury. Rooms are divided into four categories. Liang and Ming rooms have a king or two single beds. Liang rooms are located on the ground and first floors. Ming rooms are on the ground floor and have direct access to the swimming pool and garden.

The Tang Suites have an indoor plunge pool, direct access to the garden and swimming pool, and a spacious sitting area. One of these two suites differs in design from others with a 1950s feel. On the first floor, the Han Suites offer an incredible amount of space for a family of three. A luxurious sitting room with both a lounge area and day bed is separated from the master bedroom. These opulent rooms are truly reminiscent of life in the Blue Mansion during Cheong Fatt Tze's heyday.

Hotel guests are invited to join one of the daily tours of this historical mansion and can access the ornate courtyard whenever they wish. Breakfast is served beside the courtyard on the ground level. Indigo, located on the first floor, serves contemporary Asian cuisine in one of Penang's most elegant dining rooms. Fabrics and furnishings have been carefully sourced and repurposed, creating a unique, opulent setting.

Cheong Fatt Tze mansion is within George Town's UNESCO-protected heritage zone, approximately 40-minutes drive from Penang International Airport. A variety of restaurants, shops, and many of the city's highlights are within walking distance.

Please note that some guest rooms are located on the first floor and there is no lift.
