Delightful villas with floor to ceiling glass windows sitting along the Mekong river, offering one of the most peaceful and luxurious stays in South Laos.
The American owner David, who fled the bright lights of Hollywood for the sleepy sunsets of south Laos, has put his heart and soul into creating this resort and it’s obvious from the moment you arrive. Set in luscious rice paddies, the reception is a wooden building by the small car park but everything else lies beyond the rich green rice paddies (there is a path that cuts right through them).
The open-air restaurant on the riverside is in the middle of the villas. It spills out onto a green garden on the river so you have the option of sitting in the elevated restaurant or al fresco under the stars besides the river in the garden. The food is top notch (as is the service) offering an excellent mix of local and western fare (we had one of our best dinners in Laos here). Either side of the restaurant is a swimming pool, offering ample space and splendid river views.
The villas are mainly along the riverside, with just 6 rooms set further back behind the front row. Each villa has a separate self-contained room downstairs and upstairs, with either a private balcony or verandah, giving stunning views of the river, nearby mountains and misty Mekong sunrises.
The rooms are exceptionally well designed with floor-to-ceiling picture windows and an indoor and open-air shower. The rooms are modern, light, cool and comfortable, with contemporary Lao furnishings and artwork. The bed and living area is separated from the large dressing area (which has double sinks and ample luggage room) by wooden shutters that are above the bed - David had these specially designed and made for the rooms and these are the kind of thoughtful finishing touches we adore here.
We highly recommend the resort’s signature sunset cruise (which we have tried and tested!) You will sail out onto the Mekong on a handmade catamaran boat - which consists of two traditional long boats connected with a raft on top. Enjoy nibbles and drinks while watching the sunset over one of the greatest rivers in the world… we think it's a highlight of South Laos and totally unmissable!
