The Explore Kenya tour takes you to some stunning areas with amazing game viewing options. Not only the game viewing is exciting, but also the diversity in natural surroundings. As your private driver/guide takes you from Nairobi to Ol Petjeta in Laikipia and further on to the Samburu. Furthermore it takes you to the famous Masai Mara.

Firstly your Explore Kenya tour starts with a night in Nairobi. Depending on your arrival time, you maybe have the time to visit the Giraffe Centre or Sheldricks Elephant Orphanage. Another option if you arrive later, is to just relax and have a drink at the rooftop bar. However, the next morning your safari starts. As a matter of fact, today you go to Ol Pejeta conservancy in Laikipia. Undeniably one of the best places to see ‘chilled’ black rhino as well as white rhino. Having said this, it is also the place where the last two Northern Whitel Rhino live. Here at Ol Pejeta you have the best chance to see both black and white rhino. Over all, I do recommend to visit the Rhino Centre and the blind rhino Baraka.

Secondly, the next part of your Explore Kenya journey takes you into the Samburu area. Elephant Bedroom Camp is situated next to the river. Hence, you have good changes of elephants coming across and stroll through camp. The Samburu Special 5 are unique animals endemic to this area. Where else will you see an antelope walking on its hind legs to feed on high tree branches? Samburu is also home to some of Kenya’s rarest species, such as the striped hyena, civet cat and African wild dog.

Thirdly and last but not least on your Explore Kenya holiday… The famous Masai Mara! Undoubtedly a great place for game viewing. You stay at one of Alex Walkers camps in the North Conservancy. The Mara North Conservancy is popular with safari insiders. For the reason that it is one of the most densely populated wildlife reserves in the Mara ecosystem. An added benefit of visiting this conservancy is the sense of exclusivity and intimacy due to the limited number of visitors allowed. Hence, unforgettable wildlife encounters are guaranteed.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Nairobi

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where your driver will be waiting for you in a 4×4 vehicle. The drive to Ole Sereni hotel takes around 30 minutes. The hotel borders Nairobi National Park, therefore you can usually spot giraffe, zebra, antelope, and buffalo near the waterhole in front of the property. End your first day in Kenya with a drink at the rooftop bar, admiring Nairobi’s skyline and getting ready for your adventure.

1 night at Ole Sereni Hotel

Day 2 - 3 - Ol Pejeta Conservancy

This morning you will be collected by your driver in a 4×4 vehicle and make your way towards Ol Pejeta Conservancy, with stunning scenery along the way. During the four-hour drive, you’ll pass the region of Nyeri and be greeted by stunning views of Mount Kenya. After arrival at Ol Pejeta Safari Cottages, you’ll have time to eat lunch and settle into your new surroundings. In the afternoon you can enjoy your first game drive before making your way back to camp for a delicious dinner. During your second day at Ol Pejeta Bush Camp, you can choose between visiting the Endangered Species Enclosure, heading off on a game drive, or venturing out on foot to explore the beauty of the conservancy. Extend your time in the bush by enjoying a packed lunch in the plains, or head back to camp for a sit-down meal. If you choose to relax during the heat of the afternoon, you can take a night drive before returning to camp for a late dinner.

Day 4 - 5 - Samburu National Reserve

After an early breakfast, a three-hour drive towards Samburu National Reserve will take you to your new accommodation. You’ll arrive in the heart of Samburu just in time for lunch at Elephant Bedroom. This intimate camp offers simple elegance complemented by a great safari experience. It is located on the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River, which means wildlife is never far away. Activities include two daily game drives. If you’re up for something more adventurous, head out on a guided bush walk, a great way to explore the reserve. Elephant, monkey, and impala are among the camp’s many regular wild visitors – and the region is known for its lion and leopard as well. Over and above, Samburu also has unique wildlife such as gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Grévy’s zebra, and beisa oryx, none of which are found in other areas of Kenya.

2 nights at Elephant Bedroom Camp

Day 6 - 8 - Mara North Conservancy

After your last breakfast at Elephant Bedroom, your driver will take you to either Kalama, Oryx, or Buffalo Airstrip, 30 to 60 minutes from camp. From there, you’ll catch a 90-minute flight to the Masai Mara. Upon arrival, you will be collected by a driver who will take you to your next stop on this journey: Alex Walker’s Serian. It is the ideal place to spend the last few nights of your Kenyan safari. The intimate camp has just five spacious rooms set above the Mara River, with views over the Oloololo Escarpment. Located in the private Mara North Conservancy, you’ll feel as though you are in your very own piece of Africa. You can enjoy daily game drives; however, if you’re looking for something more engaging, head out into the bush on foot or spend a night sleeping beneath the stars. Allow yourself to completely disconnect on your last few days of safari before heading back to the real world.
