This itinerary focuses on hiking and exploring the Eastern Highlands, the fjords and the coastline down to Hofn. It allows you to get off the beaten track and explore one of the more remote, equally as beautiful  and less visited areas of Iceland during the summer months of June – October. Your accommodation in the Eastern Highlands area is simply magical, a real home away from home run by a fantastic family offering a truly authentic Icelandic stay.
This itinerary is purely inspirational. All of our holidays are bespoke and will be tailored to suit your likes, loves and requirements. For example we can turn this into a Winter Nordic Skiing experience in the Eastern Highlands (suitable for beginners through to more experienced Nordic Skiiers). We can amend accordingly such as extending or reducing the number of days, spending more or less time in certain areas and staying in alternative accommodation. To find out more about our Eastern Tour of Iceland, give us a call at UK 020 7112 0019 or email steffi@fleewinter.com to start planning your holiday.
Welcome to Iceland! Fly into Keflavik airport, where you will be met by your driver/guide. Tour the Reykjanes Peninsula and the current volcanically active Grindavik area before heading to Reykjavik to relax and unwind at The aptly named Sky Lagoon. Explore and enjoy Reykjavik at your own pace, with our suggested walking route and spend the night here.
Your guide will meet you at Egilsstadir airport and take you to your base for the next 6 nights a real ‘home away from home’. En route you will do some sightseeing and exploring.
Settle in, tour the farm, explore the museum, rope-bridge and hike at leisure without guide keeping an eye out for reindeer,  go for  a waterfall hike and bathe in the natural hot pools when your limbs are weary
Today you will head inland to discover some of East Iceland’s incredible natural highlights: the scenic valley that surrounds a mythical lake, and the eastern territory of the magnificent Vatnajökull National Park. You will hike for a total of 3-4 hours but with plenty of stops to explore different sights and areas.
Today you will hike the Holmantindur Hiking Trail. Hólmatindur, 985 meters high, is the pride of the people of Eskfjörður, and the beautiful peak stands on the east side of the fjord, facing the village. A challenging hiking trail leads to the mountain top but you don’t have to summit if you don’t want to.
Finish the afternoon off with some puffin watching, soak in a geothermal pool and try the local craft brews.
Today you will spend 3-4 hours hiking to the beautiful Borgafjordur Eystri, the views are stunning and the town is so peaceful and quaint and its famous for the number of puffins who frequent the cliffs
Fly back to Reykjavik and connect with your flight home or spend another night in Reykjavik at Sand Hotel or close to the airport at Hotel Berg in Grindavik
