Discover Quito through a sensory adventure on this unique and innovative tour. Experience Quito through taste, touch, hear, sight, and smell; the “sixth sense” is love, where you will see first-hand the love that Quito’s artisans put into their work. Start your day with a guided walk through the winding streets of downtown Quito, where you will uncover traditions, history and the local life of this enchanting city.
There are a variety of activities that can be included on this tour and it will be tailored to your specific interests. These activities include a stop at a small bakery, where you could try a local delicacy: Quesadillas!! Your next experience could take you to taste the world’s best chocolate in Yumbos. This is a place working with local women communities that harvest the best cacao in the world.
After this, we’ll head to the Equator Line area, where we’ll have lunch in El Crater Restaurant, at the edge of the Pululahua Volcano. We will also visit the “Intiñan Museum” located right on the Equator where you will have the chance to plant your feet in two hemispheres at the same time, and will also experience the Monument of the Middle of the world.
To close our amazing day, we will visit Casa Agave, listed as one of the best experiences in the middle of the world. You can see the true spirit of Ecuador It is a project that has been researching, innovating and enhancing the culture of agave andino for more than 15 years.
We will arrive to Otavalo, the town’s famous craft market is one of the most visited sites in Ecuador, and with good reason. The market is filled with interesting colourful and sometimes rare objects and crafts. Do remember to bargain, but only if you’re interested.
After looking around the indigenous market and workshops, we will meet the Kawsaymi project. Led by husband-and-wife team Claudia and Patricio of a Kichwa Otavalean family, who are dedicated to presenting experiences in ancestral gastronomy. Located in the Panecillo community, in the Parish of Quichinche, Otavalo, ‘Kawsaymi’ is Kichwa for “our living culture.”
Allow Claudia and her family to prepare their recipes, give demonstrative and interactive classes, and end the workshop by enjoying the dishes you’ve made together.
After lunch, we will visit the musical Instruments Workshop Tayta Gundo. This is a cultural initiative that preserves and promotes traditional Andean music. The workshop also features local musicians’ performances, immersing participants in the Andean musical heritage.
