Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Quito!

Enjoy a seamless start to your adventure with a private transfer from Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport to your hotel. A friendly driver will be waiting to greet you on arrival and take you directly to your accommodation in comfort and style – no waiting, no hassle. Sit back, relax, and soak in your first glimpses of Ecuador’s capital as you’re driven through the scenic Andean landscape.

2 overnights at Hotel Plaza Grande with breakfast.

Day 2 - Quito's historic centre and teleferico

Begin your exploration of Quito with a stroll through the historic heart of the city, the Plaza de la Independencia. Surrounded by grand colonial architecture, you’ll see the Government Palace, the Cathedral, and some of the most iconic churches built during the 16th and 17th centuries – a true step back in time.

Next, veer off the beaten path and immerse yourself in the local culture with a visit to a bustling traditional food market, where colourful produce, aromatic herbs, and regional delicacies awaken all the senses. Then, take to the skies on the Teleférico cable car as we ascend the slopes of the Pichincha Volcano. At the top of Cruz Loma hill, over 4,000 metres above sea level, you’ll be treated to spectacular panoramic views of Quito and the dramatic Andean peaks beyond – a perfect blend of culture, nature, and adventure.

Day 3 - Avenue of the Volcanoes: Cotopaxi

We’ll journey into Cotopaxi National Park, where – weather permitting – you’ll catch breathtaking views of the snowcapped Cotopaxi and Antisana volcanoes rising above the Andean plains.

Our first stop is the Interpretation Centre to learn about Cotopaxi’s explosive past and the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this high-altitude ecosystem. We’ll then head to Lake Limpiopungo for a short walk and a chance to spot native birdlife and take in the dramatic scenery.

For those feeling adventurous, an optional two-hour hike leads up to the José Ribas refuge at 4,800 metres, offering unforgettable views of Cotopaxi’s towering summit and the surrounding peaks.

2 nights at Chilcabamba Lodge with half board.

Day 4 - Avenue of the Volcanoes: Pita river trail

Today’s hike follows the course of the Pita River, a vital source of drinking water for hundreds of thousands of Quiteños – the residents of Ecuador’s capital. Fed by the glacial meltwaters of Mount Cotopaxi, the river’s clear, rushing flow will be our constant companion along the trail.

This experience is about more than just beautiful scenery – it’s a journey with purpose. By walking here, we support conservation efforts and raise awareness about the importance of protecting this precious water source. The hike offers insight into how glacial melt affects the region and why safeguarding the Pita River is essential for future generations.

Day 5 - Avenue of the Volcanoes: local market and Quilotoa lake

As we make our way to Riobamba, we’ll stop at one of Ecuador’s most authentic indigenous markets—in Saquisilí, Pujilí, Zumbahua, or Latacunga. These vibrant markets remain wonderfully untouched by tourism, offering a genuine glimpse into local life and traditions.

Next, we’ll visit the stunning Quilotoa volcano crater to admire its mysterious green lake. You’ll have the option to take a gentle 1.7 km walk around the crater rim, soaking in the breathtaking views. On the return journey, we’ll visit the Tigua community’s art galleries, where colourful paintings capture the rich folklore of the Andes. For a truly immersive experience, you can join a local artist’s painting class and try your hand at these traditional crafts.

1 night at Hosteria La Andaluza with breakfast

Day 6 - Avenue of the Volcanoes: Devil's Nose and Ingapirca

The journey begins with a stop at the remarkable Devil’s Nose railway, a marvel of engineering carved into the steep mountainside. Afterwards, we’ll visit the Ingapirca ruins—the largest and best-preserved archaeological site in Ecuador. Built with expertly carved stones fitted together without mortar, this ancient temple was a centre for Cañari-Inca ceremonies, rituals, and strategic military purposes.

Evening arrival in Cuenca and 1 overnight at Hotel Itza Boutique with breakfast.

Day 7 - Cuenca

After breakfast, we’ll explore Cuenca’s charming colonial heart. Wander through its winding riverside streets, admire elegant ironwork balconies, and relax in beautiful gardens—all part of the city’s UNESCO-listed heritage since 1999. This is a perfect city to discover on foot, soaking up the romantic, laid-back atmosphere of one of Ecuador’s most enchanting towns.

We’ll also visit local artisan studios to see traditional pottery-making and the crafting of Panama hats, where you can try your hand at these time-honoured skills and connect with the region’s rich artistic heritage.

Today you will fly back to Quito in the evening, where you will spend a night with breakfast at Hotel Su Merced.

Day 8 to 10 - Amazon

Departing from Quito, Ecuador’s capital city, a 30-minutes flight over the eastern Andes will take you to the jungle town of Coca. A wonderful journey by canoes starts at the port to arrive at the Napo Wildlife Centre where you will spend 3 nights with full board and activities.
