You know you’ve had a great vacation when you return home feeling like the very best version of yourself. Whether you call it self-care or wellness, Antigua and Barbuda has many options to help you begin, maintain or enhance a healthy lifestyle while on vacation.

The natural features of the islands make them ideal for restoring that internal harmony. With low density development, lush greenery and great weather all year round, just physically being in Antigua and Barbuda makes a huge difference in your mood and disposition.

Barbuda is a great location for those really looking for the space to rebalance their mind, body and spirit. One of the more preserved and untouched islands in the Caribbean, time moves more slowly in Barbuda and we are reminded of the simple joys of life.

Activities
Antigua is home to numerous gyms, both at hotels and externally, which are fully equipped for visitors’ fitness needs; so, there is no need to put their workout routine on hold while vacationing. Many hotels and resorts also have spas on-property staffed by trained professionals and offering an world-class menu of services. Massages, facials, body wraps and hot stone treatments, they can do it all.

Yoga studios have been sprouting up in Antigua recently and today at least one is located in the major tourist hubs of St John’s, Jolly Harbour, and English Harbour. Certified instructors are available to help you find your balance.

Visitors who are just as concerned about taking care of the environment as they are their bodies can enjoy several low-impact outdoor activities such as biking tours, nature hiking, kayaking, and paddle boarding, all available to be booked through hotel concierges or directly with tour operators.

Food
Vacation doesn’t have to be all booze and high caloric food. Often up to date with global trends, Antigua and Barbuda has seen much growth in the healthy eating space in recent years. While Rasta ital food (essentially vegan) has been a part of local cuisine for decades, a growing number of vegan, vegetarian and keto options have popped up. Be sure to let your hotel or restaurant know of any dietary needs. Also, a visit to the farmers and vendors at the St John’s public market for locally grown vegetables and fruits is a must.

Accommodations
Visitors can be confident that their accommodations are upholding international best practices of sustainability with the Ministry of Tourism’s Green Tourism Initiative. This programme is aimed at improving the efficiency and reducing their environmental impact of hotel operations. Properties are assessed yearly and those that meet the ministry’s standards are awarded a green tourism certificate. Certified properties include: Keyonna Beach, Cocos Hotel, Trade Winds Hotel, Catamaran Hotel.
