Essaouira (Aj-Suwajra) is the nearest coastal city to Marrakech. It is an incredibly charming former fishing village with an iconic harbor filled with blue boats. The city, which has attracted artists, filmmakers and musicians is the past, is now attracting food enthusiasts thanks to amazing seafood restaurants.
Essaouira is an ideal destination for a longer stay or a day trip as it features a charming medina, notably quieter compared to the medina in Marrakech. The city with well-preserved ramparts and Jewish quarter, can also be an excellent base for doing water sports.
In Essaouira, it’s pleasant to go shopping, and if you want to shop for Moroccan souvenirs, it’s much easier to do this in Essaouira than in Marrakech.
